Hey guys i have a 2013 with the sony system and was wanting to put a 5 channel amp to pump up the factory speakers. Ive done upgrades like this in the past and providing more power to factory speakers can make a big difference. the only issue is the resistance, does anyone know what the resistance on the factory sony speakers are and has anyone done an upgrade like this before?

I have only upgraded my speakers (which was an improvement, but still not the sound I'm looking for) - the overall system is just so badly lacking compared with some of the Bose systems I had in my GM vehicles prior to my SHO. Once you get a plan of attack going, let us all know what you did - from what I've read, the amp is a required component in the Sony system so replacing it is a show-stopper. Most of the solutions others have done involve installing a line out converter post-amp, which then needs another amp after that (right?)... My knowledge of sound systems is very limited, though - electronics are more my forte lol

This was almost 2 years ago now, but if I remember correctly the specs say a 6x9 will go in there, but I found it will only go if you have a different mounting adapter. 5x7 worked much better.

i think you mean 6x8 right? 6x8 is probably what it calls for in the doors which makes sense cause almost every ford / mercury has been that size since the 80's

Did you ever set it up? I am thinking about doing the same thing except 4 channel amp with new set of speakers on the doors. I am trying to figure out if I should do it on my own. I've had bad experiences having stereo equipment installed at a shop that doesn't care much about my car. But at the same time I've heard finding a spot to drill through the firewall is not easy either. Any opinions are welcome. on a side note, has anyone found how to stop the rear deck from rattling?

Not yet. my ass is too broke with a baby on the way and im moving houses. If your not an actual pro at installing audio i would recommend you pay one to do it . id rather not be liable for any possible damage created while installing equipment. some people are gung-** about fixing up their own cars and if i owned an older car i might be also. But with these newer cars, id rather let me someone else do it who gets paid for it and is insured. Dynamat and some foam spray will alleviate that rattling.
