I sthere a step by step account of removing the engine and tranny from a SHO? Ive searched and found only bits and pieces and some of it was contradictory. I am going to remove the engine and tranny to rebuild them both, as well as do some other work/cleaning while the engine is out.

If I am going to remove both, the best seems to be to drop them out the bottom. If anyone has done this and youre will ing to give a step-by-step instruction I would appreciate it. I have a cherry picker and can use a vehicle lift if necesary but its at work and I'd prefer not to.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

raise the car to about 3-4 ft and attach engine cherry picker to engine place a 4/8 sheet of plywood under car sticking out more on the passenger side. remove the bolts for sub frame and lower the whole thing slowly looking for wires or other things you forgot to unhook until it sits on the ground. hook a chain on the sub frame and pull it out from under the passenger side. this is not easy but is posible i did it in 5 hours by myself one sunday afternoon

Brett C, have you tried pulling out the top too? Just wondering if you had a comparison on which way was easier. I have done 3 out the top and they were all about 4-5 hours also. I might try going out the bottom next time just to see.

For an mtx out the top,

Remove hood
Torque limiters(? small shocks on the shock towers and one on the front motor mount)
intake
battery
air cleaner top and tube
cooling fan and overflow bottle
Disconnect radiator hoses
heater hoses
y-pipe
shift linkage
clutch cable
cruise and throttle cables
power steering lines
electrical conn. between engine and firewall
and above transmission
Slide axles out of trans
remove motor mount nuts
remove trans mount
remove starter and cables
relive pressure from and disconnect
fuel lines and a\c lines. There is probably a couple more things I am forgetting but you will see when you do it. You want to be extremely careful that you don't bump the heater core tubes coming out of the firewall because you will ruin it if you do and watch that the tranny doesn't snag the brake lines going to the abs unit. It is a little bit of a tight squeeze but just take your time and keep walking around and checking things out. Taking your time will save you money. Hope this helps.

he said he wanted to drop the hole shot all at once. no you dont do this just for a clutch.
if you are planning to rebiuld everything like i did it is easier and a lot less lost parts its all a matter of preference.

Brett,

Were you using a lift? I've read of people lowering the engine/tranny combo to the ground and then using the cherry picker to lift the front of the car off the ground so you can slide the powertrain out. Anyone done this?
