My understanding is that the ball joints on the ends of the steel links were pretty weak and tended to go out quickly, while the joints on the later plastic links were much more stout. I've read that the plastic ones are the way to go.

It's all relative . . . .

. . . . relative to whom the manufacturer is.

Moog makes a steel-based end link, which I think most will say is heavy duty. This same endlink (Moog K8702) is sold by AutoZone under it's Duralast name as part number SL239, for $25.99 ea., with a lifetime warranty. This is an all-steel heavy duty link with greaseable fittings, and is also carried by RCM Automotive.

Thanks for your point on the search function, Yes I am fully aware of its function... I have searched thru and found none reffering to my question.

I asked for your opinion on whether is better steel or plastic, not on what brand link to buy.

I currently have moog greaseable zerk fitting K8702. Yet your recommendation from above was what I have now.:thankyou:

Both are good , but if you have harsh roads (like in MI) go with steel , they withdstand better some good potholes.

At the expense of your sway bar... I've seen a front sway bar bent on Pat's car. I think I'd rather replace and endlink than a front sway bar.

I personally have the Windstar aluminum links.

I had mine (rear) replaced with the Duralast (moog) brand 6 months ago. I'm getting another knocking sound from the rear when going over bumps. I will crawl under the car today and check it out. I'm hoping it's something simple like the end link snapped. I'll be taking advantage of the lifetime warranty if so...

I'm starting to get the opinion that some people are just hitting the "search" button without actually typing anything into the search field. I have heard, over and over and over again, people say that there aren't any posts on the subject. Frankly, :bs:. There are something like 500,000 posts on this board and you're telling me that not one of them has covered this subject before?

I think the problem lies with the user, not with the forum. Yes, you have to search the right words, right forums, etc. but really it's not that hard. Try more than one term - I'm confident you'll come up with something eventually. Not everybody makes posts for the specific function of being found in searches later.

I like the plastic units. They're definitely light, which is important to me. I've never personally had one break and I don't think I've ever had one fail any other way, either.

Plastic all the way... ;)

I rock the Moogs with zerk fittings. They also have a "nut" on the backside of the stud that helps with install and removal.
