Put a socket on that 2nd nut, and the stud will turn out.

Deep socket, 13mm, like has been suggested. So all you did was grind off the portion of the stud that holds the ground strap?

I've no clue what's going on here.

Aha. I suspected something else was up. If that other stud is as stuck as the first one, you may be better off letting a shop do it that has the tools and experience at this point. Take it to Mike Courtney in Eden Prairie - Courtney's Truck Repair (but don't be fooled by the name, it is the one place in town that knows SHOs inside and out). 952-934-0931 He's just off Crosstown, just West of where it crosses 494.

well heres the update: back in duluth for another week of school, NO SHO, i have worked at this starter for three days and its still in there. i have a few pictures of the parts but i dont know how to post them. i need to thank everyone on this forum for the help this weekend. and i hope you guys and gals will be around next weekend, cause it all starts again. Today i was close to cutting that stud and nut off cause it will not move, i have put a penetranat(sp) cocktail on there; blaster, wd 40, and some old school stuff my dad has, i have applied heat, nothing will get this bolt out, if there is anyone in the MPLS area next weekend that wants to see how much this sucks feel free to stop by and give this starter a shot.

Have you tried an easy-out? They are on sale right now at Sears.

If all else fails, just get a BFH and start bashing away at the starter itself until it's demolished and falls apart and out. The housing that the bolts are threaded into is pretty flimsy diecast aluminum, and won't take much effort to break. Yes, you'll lose any core charge, but time is money too, and anything more than 15-20 minutes to change a starter on one of these things is wasting time...

well, good news the starter is out and I need to put the new one in. There is the next problem. where can i get the bolt and the stud for it? Ford is pretty much no help to me, it seems they cont even know that this car was produced. is there somewhere else i can find theis bolt and stud other then the dealer?

Just go and get regular metric bolts, one of the correct length, one a little longer. Then use the longer bolt on the easy to get to bottom location and use a nut to re-attach the ground cable.

Pretty sure they are M10x1.5 thread, so just go to your local hardware store and find some matching bolts as Tom mentioned. Nothing special that you'd need to overpay to get from Ford!

The new starter is in and i am happy to have it back again, I couldnt have done it with out this forum, thanks everyone. and i did use hardware store bolts and they work fine. I have my SHO back, once again i am happy to be driving it.

again a huge thanks to everyone that helped me through my 2 weekend starter project.
