hallo alle folk..

today i was about to drive my old grandfather down to the city.. the only thing was, my beauty wouldn`t come along.. 200 meters away from home a sqeeking noise came, just like the sound of a old volvo`s fanbelt..i took the foot of the gas to get a low idle and the sound dissapered(happened before and it worked fine).. when i continued driving the sound came back and i was now about to turn in to a bigger road and had to stop.. the idle dropped and the car dissapeared in sm0ke.. rigt now i`m sitting here with a terrible taste im my mouth.. tryed to look into the engineand nothing were on fire, but the smoke was heavy.. i let the car coole down for a minute or 2, and then try to start it agin.. starts fine and run fine for about 3-5 secounds, the the idle drops agin..
the powergenerator(dont know the right name), was a bit warm and i didn`t have any lights on the dash..

can it be the timing and accessory belt

please help me and don`t let this **** up my christmas

Can you tell if the smoke was from an electrical source, oil, rubber, or coolant? Each has its own particular odor.

The noise sounds like a belt squeal. It sounds like something (like the alternator) may have seized and caused your accessory belt to slip and to smoke from the slipping.

Did the squealing take place while the engine RPMs were down?

Are all the lights on the dash out now?

Your best case is that the belt is just loose. I don't think yoou will be that lucky, though.

Christmas is in the heart. This is just a car.

Sounds like the AC compressor is seized. The smoke was probably your compressor clutch going ******.

As long as the bearings are ok, it will run that way. Make sure that they disconnected either the compressor clutch coil or the pressure cycling switch to disable the compressor clutch.

It sounds like the clutch is still trying to engage. Make sure it gets disconnected, then perform the idle relearn procedure.

If you need AC next summer, you can fix it then. You will have to adjust to defrosting without AC, though.

Aleksandej,

If your A/C compressor is siezed, the follow the directions given above. Diconnect the electrical connection to the A/C clutch coil or the high pressure switch (or low pressure switch). This will prevent the A/C compressor from engaging.

If however, your A/C compressor pulley bearing is siezed, it can be replaced (the bearing) as a separate replacement part on the 1989 through 1992 SHO A/C compressor. The bearing is pressed into the back of the pulley, and is held in by a spring.

If you find out that it is the bearing in the pulley, research the archives, or get back to us for the replacement process or part numbers.
