so my sho has about 125k on the clock and it seems as it doesnt go into gear very good its a auto , but i could just be used to my last car its was a 5speed, and not use to a auto? but here comes the Q . i decided to try and get the trans serviced at a local oil change place , i also dont think it has ever been done , now the guy who works there said it wouldnt be a good idea to have this done , it may start to slip , due to new fluid. is this right? how about some info on this situation. thank you. kinda stuck in a rock and hard place , what do i do? maybe the trans filter is dirty? just seems like it slips a little.

If its bad now once you service it you do the risk of it slipping he is right. your best bet is to save for a rebuild or contact fps for a new tranny.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I recently bought a 89k mile 95 ATX. I know that it does not shift as well as my 149k 94 ATX. What I am experiencing is that it takes alot longer to shift into a higher gear. If I WOT, I can redline because it's taking too long to shift up. The trans fluid is a clean red. So it has been changed sometime before I bought it. I am entertaining thoughts of selling it so I was going to put some Slick50 in there to see if it helps. A friend who rebuilds transmissions for Ford says those products do help but he named two other brands (I can't remember what they were because my memory sux).

I've heard from members here that ATX owners should get a performance transmission to handle any mods that may be done to performance. However, I have not found anyplace that deals with SHO performance transmissions.

It seems the best fix for an auto transmission is to buy a manual transmission SHO. :shakehead

If an automatic shifts well but is a little lazy drain the trannny, flush the trans. Put one can of sea foam transtune in it with the proper level of fluid and go out and get it good and warmed up. It may take a couple of days before you notice it shifting anybetter. I have done this to 2 taurus atx so far, one an SHO and have had good results. If any of the valves in the valve body start sticking the trannies wont shift correctly or at the right time. $6 a can for the seafoam and the rest what 5-6 quarts or so of fluid plus a new filter is a heck of alot better than a tranny rebuild if this works. This is usually only going to work with a tranny that does not smell burnt when you check the fluid.
