Anyone have any ideas for a good place to find A/C components, specifically the tubing to/from the compressor, condenser and evaporator?

I've already installed a new condenser, and will be replacing my compressor and evaporator soon. Those parts I can find, the tubing is very hard to find, and mine is VERY rusted/corroded. Any hints would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

I just went through this last month for my 94 MTX. Good luck. The lines have been discontinued by Ford. First thing you need is the part numbers of these lines. If the line running from the compressor to the accumulator/dryer is the same on your 89 as my 94, then you're in luck. There is a place in Texas that currently has 2 left. It was $85 plus shipping. Find out those part numbers. I'd contact Torrie at FPN and ask if he could email you an exploded diagram of the AC system. It shows all the individual components and lines...with part numbers. Makes finding the CORRECT parts much easier.

SHO MOJO,

The manifolds can be bead blasted and painted, if they are not rusted through.

You should also replace the oriface line, and clean out any parts of the system that are not being replaced. Use the old lines to direct the cleaning chemicals into a container when cleaning the evaporator core.

I cut the accumulator off the old line, and the oriface off of that line. Then the chemical cleaner can be blown through the evaporator with out getting it all over the back of the engine, the firewall, etc.

Since you are replacing everything else, that is all you need to clean. Document all your new parts AND the cleaning process for the warranty on the compressor.

I am pretty sure that Gen 1 and Gen 2 all use the same. The obvious differences would be different parts for MTX and ATX....and O-rings/compressors for R12 and R134a.

Steven,

Check out http://www.caawparts.com. They seem to have a lot of parts available. Seem to have very good service, as I know a few people who've bought from them.

I need to buy at least a new compressor and accumulator for my '93. You wanna help out a fellow Cincinnatian with some a/c work?!?

I'm curious, did you convert your '89 to R134a? I'm debating what I want to do with mine. I'm not even sure if real R12 is available to anyone any more. There are a couple of R12 "substitutes" I've heard of, but I don't know how well they work.

Any advice or help you can offer me would be much appreciated!

Good luck with yours.
