hi its been a while since I've been here but I have some problems...

some guy backed into my SHO at work (hit and run) and I have to replace the hood and headlight as well as the mounting bar behind it (shattered). I was told the mounting bar from the Sable would also work if I can't find a SHO...is this true? Same goes for the hood. I ask because my friend has a 93 sable that is just sitting in his yard (doesn't run, tranny blew) and if so I'm gonna raid it for parts haha. The hood is the big problem, so if a reg taurus hood works that would help also (more selection). Any help is much appreciated.

You are correct sir, The headlight mount(header panel) WILL work from the sable as well as the headlights( I bought two new headlights for mine that were Sable. WAY CHEAPER) If your "fishtank was broken you will have to find another the sable does NOT have it(it will mount to the sable headlight)

Also, the reg. Taurus and Sable hood will fit(same thing as what was on there)

great thanks!, any idea where I can find those push pegs that attach the header panel to the front bumper cover (just above the ford logo in the center) as those are gone haha and the sable has a "light" there so they aren't needed. Oh and yeah the fishtank was cracked however, I think it can be salvaged til I find another, I just want my SHO back haha.

You should find those exact style push pins at a local auto parts store or they should aleast be able to order them for you.

this is probably a lame question but how does one go about removing the hood on this car? Namely the struts, the rest I understand

stuff

The black christmas trees I found in packs of 15 (I think it was 15) at Pep Boys in the Help! aisle- not in the help section, but across the aisle with all of the fastener type stuff- I also got some of the black keeper screws for the wiper motor cover- (the black spread housings with the little plastic screws) in case anyone was interested!

The struts are simple- put a small flathead screwdriver underneath the little metal clip on the hood end and pry away from the hood. A little wiggle, and it'll pop right off. Just swapped my hood last week! :thumb:

I'd offer you a free ultra red hood, but I'm in Meeechigan, so it's a bit far to walk...

hood

I know the show and the taurus are pretty much interchangable. I know for sure I took A trunk off of a taurus and it fit right on my 89 sho. I even changed my keyless trunk latch and put it on the tauruses trunk. My guess is that the hood has a good chance of fitting.

Hoods

You know, I've never gotten complete confirmation, but is the Sable hood the same as the SHO hood? (Both smooth) The SLO hood may fit, but doesn't it have some indentations?

The SHO hood has unique braces to clear the DIS. If you put a regular Taurus or Sable hood the brace will hit the DIS. Pick a Part off Beach and Katella had a SHO with a Taurus hood. You can see where the DIS was notched by the hood.

if you don't mind what is the DIS? and is there anyway to modify the hood in order to alleviate this. I've tried finding SHO hoods....not easy at all

D istrubtorless I gnition S ystem. It is rectangular grey plastic module with a connector on each end mounted on the plenum on the passenger side of the engine. You will have to cut a notch in the hood brace. You can also buy a CF hood too.
