Some advice

Well, I'm about to take the heads off to get to the cam.

SHOZ123 was giving me some information about it.

But, I wanted to pick some brains from my fellow club members to see if you have any suggestions for me when you took your heads off and did something with the Cams.

Apparently, you need to be precise and very careful.

If you take the head plate off, do you need to replace the bolts, or can you use the same ones?

Look, don't take your cams out.

The head bolts are impossible to find, the gaskets are ~160 each, and putting everything back together is going to be a real bear. The time it takes to remove everything, and then put it back together, is going to be worth more than the cost of gas.

The only reason to remove it is if the valves are indeed bent, otherwise, LEAVE the head on the block!

You have to remove the engine from the car to remove the heads anyways. Once you get the valve covers off, you'll know if its cam failed or not anyways.

I mean I'm taking the valve covers off to get to the cams I was in a hurry lol.

Valve covers arn't too bad, and not touchy. Paul did it pretty damn quick when he was out here a couple weeks ago.

Yeah, I got the valve cover's off, they are easy. At least the back was, getting around the damn wiring harness in the front is a pain in the ass.

the only bear i have when doing rear work is those two darn 12mm bolts that mount the surge tank.

Well.. it's a **** of a lot easier if you use crescent wrenches, let you tell you!! They are awesome. Onces you get the first swing off on it, you can hand twist them out.

I never bother with the bottom screws on the bracket... I don't even loosen them.

Since I first removed my surge tank ~3 years ago, I have only had a couple of times where I got both brackets bolted back into the tank. Once again, I've only got one, but it is still very solid.

I only remove the top 2 as well...
