I have a 92 mtx, I replaced almost everything in the front end to do with driving and steering, steering rack, tie rods, stabilizer links, lower ball joint so on... I had the car aligned and I have like 6" or so of slop going from left to right with the steering wheel.
The mechanic said it was in the steering column, is there anyway to get rid of some of the slop?

shos generally have a bit of slop in the wheel but 6inches is definetly more than usually, i'm not sure if that is the problem, but don't exspect perfection even if you get it fixed

I don't know if it's true, but you might be able to use the lower GEN 3 rack collar on the GEN 2 to get rid of some of that slop...Somebody else might chime in here...

I don't think the slip joint could cause that much slop - I think the u-joint on one or the other end of the slip joint is not tight. They need to be TIGHT to keep the slop down.
