Hi all!

Last summer my '97 started to give a shuddering feeling when the converter was locked and you were giving light acceleration. I just assumed I had a missfire or something but it never did throw any DTCs. I kept driving on it like this for the winter since I lost my heated work space and planned to do a tune up in spring.

Now just the other day I went on a 200 mile highway trip and it finaly lit up the MIL, so I pulled a P1744 code out of it this afternon.

Is there a cance that what I've been feeling is some sort of malfunction in the converter clutch? Is it a big job to swap the solenoid?

Thanks!

Yes it's the converter failing or the valve body. Don't bother with the solenoid they either work or they don't. Mine's been doing this for a year now but it works good with the xcal, up to about 70 mph it locks great with the tuner after 70 it's a crap shoot. But I rarely go on long trips with it, just 25 miles each way to work. The faster you go the more pressure it takes to lock the converter.
