has anyone ever tried to take a short shifter for a mustang and modify it to work on rod shifters??? i was thinking of making a custom shifter, but i dont think it would be that hard to make a mustang one work, and you would have ajustable stops and shorter throws. any replys will be greatly appreciated.

There is a "SHOrt" shifter available for the SHO from Jose Fernandez.
It is capable of adjusting for throws, stops, and height.

jose Short shifter is like $375, a little much for a shifter i think.

Yeah, that sounds about right on the price of it. I ended up picking up the last one he had and I love it. A very good piece of work though, but of course the old saying is, you get what you pay for. Alot of time and effort went into the shifter the Jose had made. You won't be disappointed if you can find one.

Pretty sure he asked if anyone has tried making a shifter out of a Mustang shifter... Not who currently makes a short throw shifter for the SHO. ;)

It looks like a decent shifter, but remember the 'stangs have the tranny right in the ****. Which this would bolt right into the housing and you'd be done. The SHO relies on the rods to get to the tranny. The only problem I can see is you just have to get bolts to act like "legs" so it sits up off the floor pan. And don't cut away too much of the pan either. Other than that, it should work OK. I may have forgotten a step in my thinking since I put in my Jose Shifter a few months ago. But it should be a gravy install. Good luck with it and be sure to post pics!! ****

are you saying bolt the shifter to the floor pan or put spacers to make it sit even with the floor pan? i was thinking more like making the shifter sit on the box like the factory shifter, im sure i will have to do something about the shifter length

I remember seeing pic of a stock shifter that somebody modified. It wasn't too long ago. The used a peice of pipe to raise the shifter then cut a section out of the shifter handle and welded it back in place lengthening the other side of the pivot.
