Ok, I've been talking with Beth about the money situation here for SHOforum and I offered to help out with a fund drive. In short, NOBODY wants the forum to become a pay site, especially Beth. If we have anything to say about it this site will never become a pay site. Unfortunately a forum like this isn't free, and even with the advertisement funds and classified fees there simply isn't enough fundage in the cookie jar to cover expenses.
So here's the deal: Regardless of what happens with the forum (software upgrade, provider change, etc.), we need to raise at least $3600 to keep the forum going for at least one year. Anything raised over and above that amount will go towards next year's fundraiser. We'll try to keep this short and sweet, so the quicker we raise the funds the sooner I can go back to just posting a few times a week, so send in your donations right away!
Now I know that $3600 seems like a ton of money. But I want everyone to consider this: Right now SHOforum is just shy of having 5000 registered members. If a mere 10% of those members (500 people) donate only $10 to the cause we will have raised $5000, enough to keep the forum running for nearly a year and a half! Folks, this is a goal that should be VERY easy to accomplish...$10 is a movie ticket & popcorn, or a large pizza, or a budget DVD movie. With the resources for our cars dwindling more and more and the ever present disinformation that surrounds our SHO's (even from many mechanics), this forum becomes an ever increasing source of valuable knowledge, hard to find parts and mechanics who know about our cars. That is most certainly worth such a modest donation as $10!
Now, I want to stress that this is a voluntary fundraising event. Nobody is required to pay anything, and ALL types of donations are welcomed. Keep in mind though that no money = no forum, and none of us want that. If you can only spare a couple bucks that's fine. If you want to send in a cool $1000 donation I imagine Beth will do a Snoopy dance on a webcam and post it here for all to see
The point is, donate what you can; donations of all amounts are needed. The more you can spare, the quicker the fundraiser will go, but any and all donations are welcomed!
For those that have already sent in the $15 mentioned as a possible membership fee you are welcome to have it back, but we sincerely hope you decide to make that your donation insted!
In conclusion, I ask the members to evaluate their time spent here at SHOforum. If you feel your time here is well spent and recognize the forum as a valuable resource then myself, Beth and the entire SHOforum administration ask you to support your forum with a modest contribution. Your support is needed now more than ever, please spare a few moments and a few dollars and help support our community!
Paypal donations are preferred; there is a donation button at the top of this thread. If you're not setup for paypal then snail mail donations are happily accepted as well. Make your check payable to Beth McCormick and send to:
