first off, they're struts...and yes, there is a difference. AFAIK, there isn't a quickstrut available for the gen III SHO with SARC struts. buying new struts is gonna make you cash in your 401k. they're not exactly cheap. however, oem struts off a 2002 Taurus happen to be the same size, bolt right up and don't effect the ride or handling enough to give a damn...

They are made by Sachs and you can surf the net for prices, but I see them for $180-250 each and some don't list the right front or rear components. I saw the best price at the last link above and I would verify that all parts are available in the supply chain.

..and I agree with the advice above and would go with those '02 struts for the price difference. They aren't SARC but they will ride just fine.

When I had my SHO, I bought Monroe QuickStruts off Amazon for about $700 for all four. RockAuto had a decent price on them. Though they are not listed for the Gen III SHO, you have to search for Monroe QuickStruts under a Gen IV SLO or under a Gen II SHO.

considering the suspension geometry and most components are the EXACT BLOODY SAME as the gen IV, go with those. Anything from a gen IV suspension will bolt right up to the Gen III. Gen II setup's slightly different.

so the struts, springs and strut mounts that go to a 2002 will fit the 96, front and rear? if so i found under rock auto the monroe quickstruts but only see front then rear no left or right, does the front fit boths sides? so in other words will these work and do you recommend them?

MONROE Part # 171616 {Quick-Strut; Incl. New Sensa-Trac Strut; Coil Spg; Bearing Plate; Insltr; Boot Kt}
Rear; Sedan (4 Door)

MONROE Part # 171615 {Quick-Strut; Incl. New Sensa-Trac Strut; Coil Spg; Bearing Plate; Insltr; Boot Kt}

Those are not side specific only front and rear. They look like the correct part numbers. If you don't need new springs you can save alot of money by just replacing the struts and mounts.

I also think I saw Ford '02 struts for $50-60ish plus shipping.

i got the motorcraft struts front and rear and strut mounts from rockauto, a set of eibach springs from tire rack, and altogether i had less than $700 invested. the struts were sourced from a 2002 Taurus and the springs were for a 1998 Taurus LX. the car rides smoother than it did with the SARC, sits a bit lower and looks sexy as ****, and even with 60 series snow tires, it handles better.

I'm planning on going with the Quickstrut option for my '97. SHOZ123 has me wondering now if they will have the mounts for the sway bar? Also, I'm also wanting to wait on this a bit. I've read that you can "push" the rear struts up in the lower clamps as a cheap way to regain some ride height. Does anyone know if the clamp bolt has a groove it sets in? Just wondering if I push these up a few inches will the bolt go through?

My rear struts are about an inch higher in the knuckle than stock.

Thanks. My car has 72K on it and stil rides decent. Just getting that "sag" that all the '96-'99's have. I'll push them up tomorrow after work.
