A little disappointing! Stock to stock should have matched at least.

I guess the question is why is the Sport not able to keep up. You would think with similar power and less weight than the SHO, it would have a fighting chance. Is the factory tune even more conservative past 6o mph? Or is it a "tester's error" in this case, causing an invalid comparison? I assume the 6F55 is common to both. Haven't found a reliable gearing info sheet for the Fusion yet.

The Fusion uses the same axle ratio as the SHO with Performance Package - 3.16 axle. Both have identical transmission gear ratios. I don't mean to say "I told you so" but as I have said before, Ford didn't go NEARLY far enough with this in my humble opinion. There is risk in over-promising and under-delivering. While from a marketing perspective, the "Sport" model might add more sales but it would have made about as much sense to just make this engine an option on all Fusions.

Some of the guys on dedicated Fusion Forums are getting tunes and that obviously helps. From what I hear, the intial tunes show promise but there is more on the table. Tuners have had a long time to perfect the SHO 3.5 so eventually, they might get the Fusion Sport to its full potential.

Comparing Googled numbers the Fusion is only about 500 lbs lighter than the SHO and the SHO has 40 more HP. By "rule of thumb" bench racing they should be roughly the same and they are close. You still have to remember that peak power isn't everything. I'm willing to bet the extra 0.8L of displacement has an effect on overall torque in the system to give an edge to the SHO.

yup, the SHO torque curve is basically a flat line, and the Fusion Sport is not, so the area under the curve is significantly different, hence the difference in performance.

I don't know if it is against the rules to provide a link to another forum but on a dedicated Fusion site, a poster ran his TUNED Fusion at the track and ran 13.49. As I understand it, the tune was basically a version 1 tune so there should be improvements to come. The person who posted the time also has a tuned 2.7 F150 that has run 13.21. That little engine has potential....

like i've said before ford is the smartest of the auto mfger, but not the most performance friendly unless you get a pony & pony up the $$$. leaving lots of overhead on the table for tuners allows ford the opportunity for less warranty claims. in the tune it & lose it world ford is just doing smart business. in our world of wanting more performance as far as i'm concerned ford failed. the 2.7 fusion st should have been faster than our sho, but ford holds back to tolerable performance so less chance of warranty work. warranty on the more computer controlled cars is costly. just look at my '13 escape 2.0l 4 recalls, all software. so to min hardware warranty work is smart biz.

no such luck on the torque graphs, they seem to be guarded like Ft Knox...

These are good numbers. Gives me more confidence in the 2.7/3.0 engines. Since these numbers seem better than anyone else is getting, I wonder if Ford sent C&D a ringer......

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 5.1 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 13.3 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 24.7 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 5.8 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 2.9 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 3.5 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 13.7 sec @ 101 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 131 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 178 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad*: 0.84 g

Yeah, the skidpad numbers are not very good. It had the standard all season Goodyears. They said in the article that they tried a different one with the optional tire and it did .89.

At least the acceleration seems to be
With the sport label, it should be in the low-mid 90s. Oh well.

The text indicated that the skidpad result was limited by the stability control. Apparently, it cannot be completely disabled.

Local fella has a new Fusion sport and recently ordered a tune for it and I'm assuming other goodies.

None the less, I bumped into him at the local dealership (while dropping off gap papers) and he issued a challenge one my old SHO, not my new one.

This of course is good for me, as I haven't done anything to my new one (barely have 1,ooo miles on it) and am still debating which tuning company to use.

However, this us bad for him as I don't think he realized my girlfriend has my old one and he of course started with the Auto-Zone racing talk.

"Weighs less this, same power that" blah blah blah

Which of course is fine and dandy. Up until you look at where the power is made and kept constant.

Of track, anyways...
He went for a ride in my girlfriend's car and retracted his challenge.

Told him to give it time as tunes are just arriving for the FS and I'm sure there is more on the table.

So to end my story long post, the Fusion Sport will not be replacing the SHO like so many articles have stated...definitely not this year anyways.
