SHO engine project

I'm considering the use of an 89 SHO engine in a project where I want to bolt it up to a 'traditional' transmission and place it in the frame rails front to back instead of sideways.

I've done some investigation and have found one article where the person bolted it to an SC Thunderbird 5 speed, and another where it was mated to an Aerostar AOD.

This raises the questions... is the bottom end of these engines standard Ford 3.0 liter? Are any of you aware of other transmission combinations, and / or challenges when utilizing these engines for other projects?

80-90's 3.0 5spd bellhousing and tranny,
piece of cake, I have done it once, in May I will have another done.(RX-7) wink

I highly recommend using an 89, with no abs/airbags. makes the wiring a breeze, with abs.. good luck, Huge pain in the ass.
Keep in mind, this is not Rocket science,but it is not like making a cake, there are going to be numerous problems,and expenses. Plan on at least 2 grand in extra stuff like exhaust,driveshaft issues, front suspension issues,steering issues, and the usual crap when building a hot rod. The SHO shares the same bellhousing bolt pattern with the 3.0l vulcan, so you can bolt up any tranny that was attached to a vulcan. i.e-3.0l Ranger, Aerostar. Most of these vehicles came with an automatic but a select few could be had with a 5 speed if your interested in a manual RWD SHO.

You guys never answered his question about the bottom end. I'm not an expert but I believe it is totally different. Much stronger. I've never heard of anybody having a problem with a bottom end. Heck, Josh made 465 hp at the wheels on a stock engine with a few bolt ons before he cracked a piston because of some detonation.
