Back in Michigan ... again.
At last, the final saga in the 92 SHO idling/secondaries trouble comes to an end! We finally gave up and took the car to a local shop known for good troubleshooting, and sure enough they took care of it. First off, they readjusted the voltage to the TPS, and then they reversed the vaccum lines on the secondary cannister, which we've had backwards this whole time. Oops....so much for our "expert" work

I still don't think it's quite right...it still idles around 1000 rpm (with no chip) and the revs fall a bit slower than I think they should, but everything is working as it should; the car doesn't bobble the idle anymore, and the secondaries open at 4k just like they should so Greg (the owner) is happy , and he can't wait to run at the Taurus SHO shootout in Muncie burn_out

At last, VERITEC & DALYSHO, terrorizing the streets of Kalamazoo, together again thumbs_u

I spoke with Greg yesterday...finally. He is so glad that it's running well again. It's rather obvious though because he ran through a tank of gas in I think he said 2 days. :D The fun days are yet to begin! Be seeing you soon.

How is the canister surposed to be hooked up on the back of the intake. I think i may have had mine on backwards for a few months... the car still had plenty of power... but today i was working on a 93 sho and noticed that my canister was opposite of his. I switched mine to the way his 93 was set up and now I hear the secondaries opening but i dont feel any change over at 4000. I think it may have been that i had a misfire before but the car seemed like it took off at 4000. Now it feels the same past this point... could i have screwed something up by having it hooked up backwards.

thanks, Nick

well to see if the secondaries are opening, open your hood and pull the throttle spring. have the revs go over 4,000 and see if the vacuum valve opens up for the secondaries. you should see them open. if it is open all the time, then you probably should switch back those lines.

Well, to be completely honest I never really saw any difference in how the canister was hooked up...Greg (my friend with the 92 SHO, not BeatDaSHO) did a lot of work on his SHO over the winter that I didn't help out with so I don't know how it looked before. Our shop took care of the problem, and the causes I stated are what he was told. In any case, there was no damage caused from things being backwards, and if you're not sure about your secondaries opening correctly, just start the SHO, pop the hood and unplug them, you should see them open up.

Damn! I'm glad you posted that! My 89 never has had any low end oomph since I got it on the road last winter. Went out, checked the secondaries, and sure enough, they were open all the time! Plugged the connector back in and they work now. I must have unplugged that when I was replacing the heater core when I first got the car and never noticed it.

Now, if the rain will stop, I'm going for a ride!
