the 89 we picked up did have the inserts replaced with a fake perf vinyl. They all split at seams & did not last long! We trashed the seats! Replace with a cloth insert instead. Its cooler in the summer & warmer in the winter & stops you from sliding around!

:thumb: That's main reasons I love them over the perf full leather + the cloth/leather is tons better looking and way more durable.

I just ditched my all leather with the leather trimmed ones. Better looking and no more sliding around. Definately ditch all leather seats, they are too much trouble.

the reason I was asking...It seams as though replacing with complete vinyl is cheaper than fabric/vinyl..and the fabric that you choose may not be available a few years down the road.

I went to a fabric store (Joanne's Fabric) in a mall, and they had something called Marine Vinly in all kinds of colours. Looked like leather to me, and I think half the stuff we think is leather on the original seats, is vinyl anyways.
I think even BMWs now use all vinyl seating, and no one ever scoffed at their seats.
That is what I would use.
I think that is the single biggest improvement you can do for you car.

Anyone have any pics of reupholstered seats? I'm thinking of having mine done, but I'm afraid it'll look like cr@p, since these don't seem to be the easiest seats to upholster.

You had them reupholstered and kept those stupid map storage pouches? Those would be the first thing to go if I was to reupholster seats.

They look really nice besides that, though.

WHat did you end up paying to get that job done? I saw the paperwork from the p\o of my car and he spent about 350 per seat.

If you have them redone at a quality shop they should look great, atleast w/quality materials, whether stock or not. I do not have a pic handy, but I had my '89 dr. seat redone w/brand new factory cloth (whole seat) and a very close match of leather (just lower seat pcs. and left bolster) and it looks like a new factory seat from '89.

Wow those look good, almost hard to believe they were reupholstered. Now if only that steering wheel could be reconditioned.

seats

I've called 2 or 3 places in kalamazoo that said they don't recondition seats. Where do you get this done near kalamazoo michigan and how much are we talking for maybe just the drivers seat because mine's pretty torn up and the foam is sticking out

Auto upholstery shops.
An auto restorer/hot rod shop can steer you the right way if they don't do it.

My gen 1 cloth leather dr. seat cost $400 some to stich in all new cloth, new leather pieces for one bolster and 2 pcs leather in the seat bottom. That incld. labor and leather.

the front seats were redone years ago and the fabric pattern while close, isn't the same as the original back seats.
Now the back seats are toast(southern climate) so...I need to get ALL the seats done.
Thats why I was asking.
It just seems to me that having them all done in vinyl would be a lot cheaper than mixing fabric/vinyl!
Hey...Ive spent probably three times what this car is worth on mechanical s and I don't drive fast enough to slip around!
