So I picked up a can of the stuff, but not quite sure where it goes.
I know it's supposed to go in the PCV line and the brake booster, and finish up the can in the tank.

But where is the PCV and the brake booster on a 91?
And in case you're wondering, I am noobsauce.

Is the PCV one of these two?

Pour that can of Seafoam into your neighbors' bird bath and do some maintenance to you car.

What? You have got to be kidding me right? You mean to tell me that the 3.0 doesn't acquire carbon in the intake or TB and that it's always clean. Or that Ford doesn't recommend any kind of Fuel Injection cleaning which is maintence to begin with on this car. Most be a miracle car/engine then. :woo-hoo:

To the OP, yes it will work wonders on a car. Poor a little in the gas tank then use the rest to put through the manifold. I just acquired my SHO and haven't really had time to look at the location of everything. The brake booster will be a large black circle on the driver side against the firewall. It will have one vacum line going into it. Your best bet however will be to find a vacum line that goes directly into the manifold. Use that one, and be sure to pour it in slowly while the vehicle is running otherwise it's possible to foul out your plugs. Then after it's finished, rev the car up to 1500-2000 RPMs and hold her steady till the majority of the smoke has cleared. Now go take it around the block and beat on it a little bit to clear out the rest of the smoke.

I would recommend replacing the fuel filter(if it's not in the tank) as well.

I must have missed a thread the op originally posted in with other issues he's having with the vehicle.

Elliot-I'm actually doing the seafoam and wil post pics here in a bit where to run it through the manifold. More or less you are doing intake manifold cleaning.

im not disagreeing with the idea of doing it, it is a great sevrice to do. i do it to all the vehicals in my fleet and it works great. i was just asking a question. fwiw if you do it through the booster line you will not get the tb. if you have access to any type of service tool that will mist it through the air intake tube then you will be able to get the tb and butterfly

You cant run it off the booster. There are other vacuum lines T'd off to it. Some of them I couldn't tell where they went to.

Add about a 1/4 of the bottle to the gas tank. IMO it doesn't matter how full the tank is. I've done it where the tank was almost empty and when it was completely full. It was in another vehicle and it had no effect either way. However, it is up to you to decide how you want to complete this part.

Disconnect the vacuum hose off the metal piece attached to the manifold, the one my finger is pointing to. (Excuse my Robin William look alike arm.) ;)

Connect a 3/8ths vacuum hose(can be purchased from parts store) from the metal piece that is attached to the manifold. Now plug the hose you initially took off. (I used a bolt and just shoved it in that dirty whore's hole)
1285642003.jpg

Start your vehicle(you may need a 2nd person pending if the vehicle will run on it's own with the hose unplugged) and slowly pour the seafoam in the attached 3/8ths hose. The vehicle may die a few times due to heavy amounts going in the intake at once. Just start the car up, let it run for a few seconds then continue pouring. You may need to give the car a little gas to get it to start running again. This assists in getting the excess fluid to quickly go through the system.

I actually have a tool to control how much liquid is flowing in. But I've done the other way as well. The tool just allows for it to slowly go through the system making it more effective in "cleaning."

Keep adding till the last drop is gone.

Turn vehicle off and reconnect the vacuum hose

grab your favorite beverage, start the car, enjoy beverage while vehicle runs for 2-3 minutes. Occasionally you will want to rev the car up to 2K RPMs to assist in blowing the rest of the carbon out. If the vehicle is built up thickly with carbon you will see white smoke come out of the tailpipes. More carbon = more smoke. Enjoy the show. :)

It should look something like this.

This is at 179K on my 91 SHO and it's obvious this has either never been done or it's been awhile since the last service.

Now take it for a spin, hop on the highway, get on it, and enjoy the return of your "lost" horsepower.

For me there was a huge difference. I just got the car Saturday and already in the butt dyno I feel a better response in acceleration and the top end finally "woke" up.

PS- I'LL PASS POURING THIS IN MY NEIGHBORS BIRD FEEDER AND WILL CONTINUE TO PERFORM THIS SERVICE ON ALL MY VEHICLES

FWIW, The SHO does not have a Upper Intake Manifold. :)

Thank you for the write up!

-Sam

No problem! You will find that I'm one that is willing to help anyone that asks. At least to the best of my knowledge.

I went ahead and edited my post to change UIM to just manifold. Thanks for letting me know. I'm new to this vehicle and still stuck in GTP land.

The good thing about you though is that you're willing to get your hands dirty and tell of your experience. Good for everyone in my opinion. I've used seafoam in ALL of my vehicles since finding out about it in the late 90's but was reluctant to use it in my SHO because of a bad experience I had with it and my 91 Plus AND my 99 Autobahn Aurora, reason being I used the vacuum hose on the brake booster for both..Not GOOD! Both spat all the seafoam bak in my face and would not shut off lol. Funny now but scared the living daylights outta me at the time. I attribute this to the complex intake manifold designs of these vehicles because every other car I've used it on has been OHV or DOHC with much less complex designs. I appreciate the write up and will take to this method on my newly acquired (5-months so far) SHO as soon as I have time...helps that seafoam is currently $6.99 a bottle at O'Reilly Auto Parts :)

Yea my wife almost picked up some Chem 12 but saw that Seafoam was on sale. Valvoline synthetic is on sale as well for like $3.99 ;)

Dude I can only imagine how that tasted or felt. Thats pretty much like getting straight fuel in your face. I've been doused in the face with gas changing a fuel filter and any chemical like fuel is deffinetly not fun!

I do all mechincal work on my vehicles except for two things. Rearends and transmissions. Although, I'm still learning and have been doing this stuff for 13 years.

Your not lying about this manifold design. I'm still tripping out how it is. Although I do love the runner design. Kinda reminds me of the TPI Vette I used to own.

When I was changing the oil tonight. I kept staring at it saying "damn those spark plugs look like a blast to tackle!"

Use port one. Suck the whole can in, let it stall out when its almost gone. Wait 20 minutes then go beat the **** out of it till it stops smoking.

Pour a second can in the gas tank and change the fuel filter..

I do this about 4 times a year (other than replacing the fuel filter) and every time I have to pull the intake the valves and heads are clean. Unless you have polished runners there is always going to be build of of some sort on the runnter... don't forget, unless you rev it over 4k when your sucking this in it won't get to the secondaries.

I don't see wasting $8 on the seafoam. Also, my vote would be for port 2, and the suggestion of unplugging the secondaries if you're going to do it.

I have done this to meny cars and it has done wonders of great things
Some gain hp and most if not all get better throttle response and fuel millage
I do it to my own cars at least 3 times a year

Port 2 won't provide adequate suction.

Follow the hose from port 1 down to the canister purge solenoid, unhook that, stick the hose in the bottle and the engine'll suck it down like a stoner clearing a bong.
