ok, great. I think I'll order one from SHO Source. Although, the entire unit is out; not just a couple LEDs, all of them are out. I checked the fuses and none seem to be blown. Could this be something else or should I just replace the 3rd tail light first anyway?

Thanks

As I understand it. If one LED goes out the whole strip will. Just the way it was designed.

I did a little work this weekend.

I looked at the right front sway bar link. I'm more familiar with the rear links, but I believe this picture shows the link running vertically. According to the inspection, it's broken. Is that indeed the sway bar link? Does it look broken? If it is the link and it's not broken, what kind of options do I have for confronting the inspectors in their lie/mistake?

Waiting on the 3rd tail light to arrive.

The motor mount looked fine, too. I'll try to remember to take a picture of that, too.

The strut is caked up. I'll try to remember to take a picture of that, too. Ah, the power of forums, knowledgeable people, and technology!

Thanks so much!

Yes, that is the endlink. It's not broken, but I'd replace it. The boot is gone on it. How many miles are on the car? The struts look like the original units.

I see, thank you. The car has almost 140,000 miles on it and I'm 99% sure those are the original struts (I doubt the previous owner replaced them).

I'm sure it's time for those then as well. That's actually not a factory endlink, I don't believe, as at that point, Ford was using plastic endlinks. I guess it's a matter of how much money you want to spend now. Two front endlinks, new struts...etc

At the moment, money is very tight and I live 1 block from the metro. My car is really for emergency-type transportation and for things outside the city. I estimate that I drive under 3000 miles/year only.

I'd replace the endlinks and wait on the struts in that case. And find somewhere else to inspect it.

Welcome to Virginia state inspection. No matter what I do everytime I take a car for inspection I get nitpicked and have to have them fail it for something. Last time I took the SHO it was ball joints, mufflers, and an instrument panel light. Ball joints ok fine I understood that. But a stupid bulb and mufflers? Ok the muffler wasn't to a point that it was giong to fall off and harm another motorist, it wasn't loud (if anything quieter than stock), and there is no emissions in this part of Virginia (knock on wood) so WTF is the problem with some muffler surface rust. In this same instance and I was JUST telling Kevin this yesterday in my garage, where two different shops nitpicked me on BS, they both didn't seem to care about the torn boot on my driver's side tie rod with no grease in it. What sense does that make??? Another time I took it they said it needed a bulb to pass, they can do it for $50 or fail the car; guess what I failed it and fixed it myself. It sucks, it's a pain in the ass, but we're stuck with it.

Moral, fix it yourself and you'll save a lot of money. It'll take time and it'll be a pain in the ass but if you like money you'll be happy you fixed it yourself. **** I hate to admit it but my current DD's inspection expired in October. I still haven't done it because I'm sure they'll fail it on some bullcrap and money is tight for me right now. Additionally on that car the transmission has been acting up and why the **** should I pay to have shit fixed when it might break and end up in the junkyard in the next few weeks? Yea it's a risk and I am going to get it inspected before the year ends. It just sucks, I understand the purpose of the safety inspection but it just sucks!

If you're in a serious bind I have the original plastic endlinks out of my '99 SE (the expired DD) that aren't in the best shape but they're not bad either; I think they'd pass inspection fine. Your's if you need them, they're just taking up space.

I'm sure he appreciates the parts, but gen 3 endlinks aren't the same as gen 2.

Oh yeah, did you get your car inspected yet? :swing:

I appreciate the offer, as well as the wealth of information and willingness to give it from everyone on these forums, but I do fortunately have an emergency fund for things like this. Baby step 1! Any other Dave Ramsey fans out there?! Anyway, I feel alright dipping into that to get my car repaired properly.

Oh, while I was fixing the fog lights I noticed that the plastic around my bumper is cracked (not the bumper cover, but the black plastic around the inner bumper). Is that something I should be concerned about?

Thanks again, everyone!!

Here's the pictures. If anyone can confirm or deny that these are broken/in need of repair/if better pictures would help, that would be huge help! Thanks!

Huh? Endlinks are endlinks they'll all work any generation (except '10+ obviously)

No shutup :asskick:

If Endlinks = endlinks
but Gen 2 =/= 3 endlinks
Then Endlinks =/= endlinks

Unless we are talking about the rear. In this case, we aren't. FRONT endlinks are different from Gen 2 to Gen 3.

I don't see anything that's broken - does the rear of your car sag? The coils look a little close together. Hard to tell on the mount, there are tests to do, I believe with the transmission in drive, and your foot on the brake, tip in to the throttle to see if the engine moves excessively.

Nick,
Some VA inspection places are definitely over the top compared to others, and you drew a stickler. Look around; there are plenty to choose from. I have been known to scrape the rejection sticker off and just go to the next one if I think the findings were incorrect. If you call ahead, it is legal to drive to the station without a sticker. I try to use only places that inspect while I wait; preferably those that let me look on. I never let an inspection station do any repair, with one exception - headlight aiming.
