Can your O2 sensors go bad over time (3 or 4 weeks), or do they go all of a sudden? My 93 ATX is running like sh#t. It starts fine but when it gets warm the RPMs will start to dip and then finally shut off. I ran the codes and got conflicting codes for the O2s (one said running lean and the other said running lean and rich at the same time) and an Ingnition coil #2 code. Is the DIS the ignition coil? Will the DIS going bad cause this or not? Also, how hard is it to change them by myself? Would it be worth the money to have some else do it? As you can tell I am not very mechanically inclined, but I am very broke. Sorry about all the ?s but I love this car and want to get it back on the road to eat up some more imports.
Once again thanks for any help you can give me
P.S. Does anyone know a reliable mech in pinellas county?

We need to know exactly which codes you got. Did you also get a 542/543 code? These always show up with bad O2 sensors. O2 sensors go bad over time and will only trigger a light when they give a reading that the computer doesn't understand. My original OEM sensors (I have a 95 ATX) lasted 5 years and my current OEM sensors are now almost 5 years old and have yet to trigger a code. I am replacing them soon, however.

I did get a 543 code.
Is the ignition coil the DIS or the unit with the plug wires? I did replace the unit with the plug wires and the CCRM.
Also, I have read that you are not supposed to mess with the painted screw on the throttle. Why not, and what could happen if you do?

DIS = Distributorless Ignition System. The DIS consists of several sensors and the coils (the things with the plug wires), and the Electronic Control Unit (the computer). If you do a search you will find several prior threads on how to test the DIS with a digital Multi-Meter and an LED light probe. (Do NOT use an analog (swing-needle) type meter NOR an incandescent probe.)

As for the screw in the throttle body, DO NOT try to make any adjustment of that screw. You can and most likely will screw things up royally if you mess with it. You will not accomplish anything by messing with that screw. LEAVE IT ALONE, period.
