Is this type of rust repairable?! I have a 90' with moderate body rust, but must to my surprise when I got it up on the hoist, I noticed that I could see the back of my carpet on the driver side! The engine is awesome and the rest of the body is workable. HELP!!!

I have the same crap. The hole where the e-brake comes through the floor is getting relatively ginormous. Someone can probably cut the bad part out and put some new sheetmetal in for you.

Ofcourse it is. I'm sure you've heard of floor pans, although i doubt there are any made for our cars. If you think you could get to the hole easily with the tip of a welder its very much repairable, depending on where its located i wouldnt be too worried, but def get it plug'd up and some kind of rust proofing on there.

I know this is pretty bootleg, but I bolted an old license plate over the hole on the driver's side. The rest of the body/frame are rotted badly enough that that license plate will probably outlast the rest of the car. If anybody else rode in my car, I might care about putting a license plate over the hole on the passenger's side... and the rear spots.... If you want a more permanent fix, weld some sheet metal in there, my dad did it on his old omni, and it lasted until the driver's seat fell through :oogle:

Why do we put up with these cars? So I get a piece welded in, great. the floor is solid again. now my fuel tank falls off. then my low coolant lite comes on, (coolant is not low), my e-brake is stuck in, and I need new subframe bushings! Is that all? No I think my clutch is bad. UGH! :thumb:

Sorry to tell you, but get used to it. Just when you think you've got everthing squared away, something WILL, bend, brake, crack, peel, rattle, squeak, or possibly explode. Just leave an empty spot in the garage, just in case.

The engine purrs at least. Oh does it purr. Other than that I am thinking of selling her, before she breaks the bank.

bah, once it's all up to *****, just keep up the maintenance and it shouldn't be any worse to keep running than any other 18 year old car...

Just think of the 'quirks' as part of the personality to enjoy ;)
