Rust Contributed to By Drain Hose?!? YES!!!

(Sorry, This is in the wrong folder)

Well, I finally decided I better start to tackle some of the rust before I go off to college — unfortuanately my replacement rocker panels haven't arrived yet. However, I decided I'd do some temporary patching until next year. I'm starting by the drivers door.

I just took the plastic cover off the rocker, and I'm reaching in and pulling out all the pieces of metal. (The weather stripping along the bottom of the door is ripped allowing the water to back up and rust through). I began noticing what I though was very extensive moisture damage from all the water that collected by the front fender....BUT I then noticed there is a hose that runs down inside the pillar the drivers door is hinged too.

Is this a drain hose for the sunroof? Is it depositing water inside my rocker panel and contributing to some of the rust? I have been unable to find any sort of a drain hole, so IF it is a drain hose, the water sits in there, evaporates and eats away at my car.

If anyone knows what this hose is for let me know — I would suspect ford wouldn't be stupid enough to enclose a drain hose inside the car with a drain hole, and I probably am jumping to conclusions. Thanks for any input.

There are 4 drain hoses for the moonroof...one in each corner (the 2 rear ones you really cant see, but they are there)...they should be open under the car as long as they arnt clogged...if you pour some water into your moonroof area with it open (dont spill on inside) you can look under the car and see it draining out. They are there that way the moonroof doesnt have to seal, it just drains the water.

The 2 front drain hoses come out behind in the front tires, and the 2 rear ones come out right in front of the rear tires...at least that is how it all works on my '94..

I can't F*%king BELIEVE THIS!! :madflame:

I SUGGEST CHECK THERE CAR TO PREVENT (STRUCTURAL) RUST DAMAGE TO THEIR CAR.

This May not be so for all SHO's, Mine is a 1990. I have major Rocker panel rust (actually beyond the rocker panel and into the body of the car).

One area I have rust is by the drivers door (I am going to check my passengers side now too). I Inspected and found what I thought MIGHT be a drain hose.

I Just poured water in the sun roof to see if water drianed out of the hose which was enclosed in the frame of the car behind the (rusted out) rocker panel. WATER CAME OUT.

This means ALL WATER which drianed through the front drivers side sunroof drain was puddling INSIDE the rocker panel. Did Ford screw up on just my car?!

I would expect the hose to extend through the body — not stop inside. Also, I have not yet found a drain hole.

SO, THANK YOU FORD FOR RUSTING OUT THIS SHO :headbang:

Should I re-route the cable so a drains out the front wheel well? Any other suggestions?

Well there's not too much I can do about the passengers side drain hose, as there's no rusted through holes, and its fully enclosed in metal, making it impossible to access — maybe I'll drill a hole and try and pull it through.

I think I'm gonna try and have them drain into the front wheel wells, as it would be difficult to extend the hoses — can barely reach it as is. I'll have to drill a hole in the plastic splash sheild for em I guess.

I still can't believe it though.... :squint:

Maybe I'm just being ignorant, but what is the problem?? It's a 14 yr old car residing in the Northeast. Moonroof or not, it's to be expected that it'd be riddled with rust.

Yep, gotta luv good 'ol american quality. The 93 I dismantled a couple of years ago was the same way, front drain tubes terminated inside of the front body. There are drain holes in the rocker panels, (lots more now). I suppose we should all park facing uphill so the water will flow back to the drain holes.
