How to fight the rust battle? Piecemeal as the rust spots develop or wait until a critical mass of ugliness develops and do it all at once?

I'm original owner of my '90 White SHO. 135K mi.
The car is a keeper. Live in Upstate NY. Lots of snow. In Y2K, I had it repainted by a local craftsman for $2200. Much minor rust zapped at that time. Car looks terrific, but new rust appearing in new locations, incl. two scary small dots poking thru body panel below fuel filler. Other areas are hidden side of the trunk lid overhang & the lower seams of the inner side door kick panels (again).

I have the same problem, the rust is over the wheel wells and sadly I don't have enough money to fix the problem. My suggestion is to do everything at once and maybe wait until all problem spots show through. I really wish that they could find a way to melt the ice on the roads without using salt but that probably won't happen.

Unfortunatley, once rust starts,it will always come back.Last March i had my rust spots cut out,new metal welded in,and the whole thing was redone and painted.By the end of summer, some small spots can be found if you know where to look.
