I just purchased over $100 in brake parts (rotors and pads) from Rock Auto for my '89.

My brakes were over due for a change...the rotors were shaved down and the pads were...well..there were no pads.

I ordered the Monroe Ceramic performance brake pads from Rock Auto last friday and came in yesterday. The rotors came in today.

While changing the brakes, I noticed something and quickly became infuriated.
The inner pads did not fit into the caliper piston, the 3 spring clips that hold it in were much too small.

This disturbed me because it's not like they sent me the completely wrong product...no they sent me exactly what I ordered, they just put it in the wrong category on their site.

Now I have no car and I have to wait a week to get my damn money back so I can purchase the proper brake pads.

Overall, I'm very dissapointed and this wasted a lot of my time and money, being as I was supposed to get some tranny work done friday but that isn't happening now, and I can forget about going to any car meets this weekend.

You can be mad at them all day but chances are it's the manufacturer of the part that has the application listed wrong. In fact, that's 100% what the problem is. Blame your pad manufacturer, not Rockauto.

You should have stuck with good ol Bendix or Wagner, let Monroe stick to struts and shocks. Good luck.

i personally hate wagner too, I had them before and they were nothing close being something i would write home about

I got some ceramic pads off tire rack for 11 bucks... put about 300 miles on them so far and they are nice.... not the best performance pad, but what is going to be good on stock 93 sho brakes anyway.... atleast theres no dust, and can't beat the price

You make no mention of contacting RockAuto to obtain a refund or exchange, so I wouldn't be in such a hurry to blame them for something that may not be their fault at all. How exactly were the pads miscategorized on their site?

FWIW, as good as RA's prices are, for pads and rotors you usually can't beat the prices at a local AutoZone or Advance, and also all the common part numbers for pads/rotors, etc. are available via a search of this forum. When shopping for SHO parts it's always a good idea to do the research beforehand since it's pretty common knowledge that every parts supplier as well as Ford often mis-list SHO parts.

does your car have metal pistons in the calipers?
because if your car has metal and not phenolic pistons the brake pad clips are different.
the hole is alot bigger in the metal pistons, they are an upgraded caliper from stock.
have been a mechanic for 15 years and we used to run into that situation all the time as the oe phenolic caliper pistons were garbage, chrysler had the same problem.
find your local napa and get the right stuff, monroe is known for shocks not brake pads.

havent had a chance to set a negative deal for rock auto yet but they screwed my order up also..
the lower rad hose dont fit and also the injector o rings they sent me go to what im guessing is a mustang so they dont work either..

You know you can just spread those clips open wider to hold the pad in the piston, right? I used to do that all the time with my 92, because AZ only carried PFC's for the non-SHO/ non-Police. The only purpose those clips serve is to locate the pad in the caliper during reassembly, and to prevent rattling during operation. Spread them out and put them in the caliper, and they'll do just fine.

Just checked out RA's website catalog and they list two part #'s for those pads, DX421, which is the small piston clip, and DX421A which is the large piston clip. Notations are made on both part #'s in reference to what size clip you have. What part # did you order?
