Due to the fact that the Taurus is a unibody car, I think it would be a whole lot easier (and safer!) to just get an aftermarket power sunroof put in your car. i believe there would be some serious structural integrity issues in cutting the roof off of your car and welding another back on, much like you can't just chop the roof off of your SHO and call it a convertable.

I agree. The electronics and the drain tubes that run under the front and rear pillars would be a PITA to do. I would go aftermarket.

The sun roof has its own seperate sub assembly that is welded to the roof skin. I don't think it's worth it, but you could just cut a hole in the roof for the window and weld the window frame assembly in. Fit and finish would be an issue, but the drain tubes are easy to install, same with a wiring harness. If the headliner is removed all that stuff is exposed. By the way, the window frame assembly covers the entire roof, from windshield to rear window. I've an entire roof with sunroof out in the garage from a 93 parts car, you can have it rrrreal cheap! The rest of the car had an unfortunate encounter with "SAWZILLA"

There was a yellow Taurus SLO around Spokane WA which had the roof cut off to be "convertible"

I bet it was crap in the corners, but the guy drove it like he had struck gold :)

I had thought about replaceing my roof with one that has a sunroof. It can be done but I don't think it's wroth the time. Replaceing a roof is pretty easy compared to do things like the rear quater panels.
