Removing EGR will.....

... fill in the blank please. Are there any problems that I will have if I completely remove the EGR stuff from my 94 ATX.

I hope I get this right-------it's the same as a pcv valve (positive crankcase ventilation) which keeps an engine "equalized" for pressure. You don't want internal pressure/gases flowing the wrong way as this could cause oil to be sucked into your combustion chamber and also cause seal leaks as it's trying to escape. Keep it connected and you'll get just unburned "gases" channeled back into your combustion chamber and not oil. This is a problem we encounter when modifying powerful motorcycle engines--so we pop a hole in the valve cover and connect it to the airbox via a hose and a one way check valve which drains any oil back to the top of the engine. bs bs ~~~~~~~~~~~~~UPDATE:I described a pcv valve and NOT an egr valve. I should have looked it up first. C YA eek!

I believe that '92 and up do not have EGR valves. I was looking for mine and I could not find it. Later I learned that it was eliminated on my '92.

Unfortuantely, not even close.

It's an emission control strategy to lower combustion temps by returning exhaust gasses to the intake system, lowering the production of pollutants.

... cause the CEL to light with an EGR code.

... cause your car to fail emmisions testing, if it is required.

... cause the tree-hugging hippie-crats to hate you for intentionally increasing the pollution generated by your car.

They were not eliminated 92 and up. Some states simply have differend smog laws that just don't require them. I have a 95 Cali SHO and I have one.

Sooooooooo, When I removed my intake, the EGR came off (broken at the manifold). Do I replace it? If no, what do I have to do to make this permanent?

I had the same problem. Took off my intake and broke the egr valve at the manifold. Problem is they are obsolete from ford. I tried welding it back together but that didnt work for very long. A friend of mine happened to have a spare sho engine laying around so I took the valve off of there. It was a real pain in the butt to get back on!

All CA SHOs have them. All ATX SHOs have them. 49 state MTXs (89-95) do not have them.

Personally I despise EGR systems. They introduce inert, hot gas to the intake mixture to lower the cylinder temps and reduce the NOx pollutants. On my '97 it is removed completely. You will get the engine light, this can only be eliminated with a chip or removal of the bulb. You could put a 24V bulb in to lessen the brightness. You may also get some pinging if your intake and cylinder heads are dirty or the fuel is of poor quality.

My 92 was a CA car with EGR, a few years ago I removed it (wasn't paying the gold Ford wanted for the tube). It does help though, NOx doubled at the next emmision testing (still way under the GA limit at the time) and car tended to ping on 87 in summer. W/ EGR the car would actually run a lot better on 87 (at P/T, at WOT the valve is closed anyway).

You'll need a 49 state EEC to get rid of the CE light, I just swapped in a rear 49 state intake, rear manifold, and X2J EEC.

By eliminating the EGR you will see worse mileage with NO gains in power since it is blocked at WOT. However, you then have one less things to break!

You should be fine so long as you fill in the vacuum holes and replace the computer with a non-egr system one.
