My overdrive button on my 93 ATX doesn't work. I am trying to pull the center console but I am stuck. I took out the screw under the cup holder, under the metal ashtray insert, and the ones in the storage area. I got the stock CD player and tape player also. Am I missing any screws? I dont want to just pull on it and break something.

Also, I am debating if its do able. Instead of using the "o/d button" wire it to a switch on the switch panel(that is in the ash tray area). Is this ok todo?

Thanks

If you are just trying to pull out the top panel that the shifter goes through, you just need to remove the screw under the cup holder. I don't know of any screws in the ashtray, there is no bracket there so the screws don't need to be removed if there are some. You do need to pull the clip out of the front of the shift **** and then take the **** off. Also take the arm rest cover off, it will make things easier. After thats done, just pull the cover off, it is held in with some clips so its going to need a little force to come off.

Help with overdrive button problem

I recently had the same problem with mine. The removal of the center consolde was along with the removal of all electronics to install new gauges, stereo head unit, slide out TV screen, etc. While I had the car apart, I had the black trim pieces painted to match the outside of the car. What I discovered about the overdrive button was the wires sometimes get caught in the shiter (especially when doing a lot of manual shifting). I wish you luck getting these wires to be long enough to get a new splice in. They are two small white wires running down from the shifter. The problem with this is that they are not colored differently. Which means you have a 50/50 chance of getting them right the first time. I have to go back in and redo my splices because I did a pretty crappy job of it the first time. But I got my overdrive button working again. You MUST pull the pin in the front of the shifter and take the **** off. This is the only way to get the shifter bezel (where it tells you what gear you're in) out of the way enough to get to the wires. If you can, replace the entire wiring harness from the button down. I did not do this and the wires kept getting caught in the shifter (pulling them apart again). Ensure you have enough wire to leave yourself some excess to pull the shifter out again (if you need to in the future). When I redo mine, this is what I am going to do. :headbang:
