Hey SHO'ers,

Recently my remote start stopped working. Sometimes when I do it it just flashes the 4 way signals, other times it honks with no start. This has worked up until a few days ago. The system is enabled in the settings. Any ideas?

Do you have Ford OEM or aftermarket remote start? Do you have a separate fob to test with? Normal in-car starting ok? Fob battery could be down, not communicating with the security system.

It's the OEM one. The separate FOB is at my parents so I'll have to maybe try that. It doesn't seem to have a problem with the range on it though. Car starts perfectly fine normally.

My 11 Explorer started doing this in winter and then once spring came started working fine. That summer the battery (the car not the fob) went south and I replaced it. The next winter the remote start worked flawlessly.

Cant say for sure it was the battery but it seems logical.

So I tried the other FOB this morning on my way out to work, it did the same thing. Drove the car to work, got out and tried it and it worked. Any idea?

Let me copy and paste from the owners manual:

The remote start system will not work if:
• the ignition is on
• the alarm system is triggered
• you disable the feature
• the hood is not closed
• the transmission is not in P
• the vehicle battery voltage is too low
• your service engine soon light is on.

Have you checked into the bold faced item as another member suggested?

Thank you! I am going to get the battery checked this weekend. The last two days the auto start has worked for some reason (no idea what is different). Thank you all for the feedback so far!

Did it sit less when the remote start worked? If it did it would make sense as the battery didn't have enough time to lose voltage over time.

For some reason it has been working since that one day. Even when it sits for a day it still works. It's a mystery!

Have the car battery checked anyway. These gizmos can give up without warning, possibly leaving you in a highly undesirable situation.

Both my 13 SHO and 11 Edge have this occur if for example, you hit the unlock button and then decide to use the remote start it will just flash the lights and honk at you. Thought I had an issue but apperently it's how it works. Just my own experience with two vehicles.
