I have an 89sho.
It will redline at 7500rpm and seems to there, at least for the few seconds i had it there. Didnt seem to lose any torque or power. I read somewhere that it was limited to 7200rpm. Is that for a Gen II?

Also-- When im "racing" where should i shift? I usually go right to the redline, but should i stop earlier??

thanks,
silas

Silas, with stock cams the torque is falling off very fast past 6k or so. By 7k to rev limiter it's not making much at all (in the 120 ft/lb range or even less).

The early SHO's, especially 89's, tend to have overly optimistic tachs. My 89 shows an indicated 7800 rpm at the limiter, all SHO's have a 7300 rpm actual rev limit.

On a healthy motor, shifting at 7k or maybe just a tick under will provide the best ET.

I also have an 89. Redline on mine seems to be somewhere over 7000. You cant rely on the stock tach to tell you because it just is not accurate enough. I have looked down at times to see my tach pegged at 8000 when bouncing off the limiter, (it happens alot when your throttle sticks wide open) other times more like 7500.
