My wonderful best friend whose SHO got hit hard:cry:, has decided to junk his car but prior to that, take out his 3 month old AC compressor and give it to me:naughty:. Now the question is, to rebuild the AC system in my 89 what do I need?

I already know where Im getting the dryer/accumalator and the condenser. I just need help with the hose part numbers and anything else I may need. Can anyone help me out?

I also took his black interior and I need that AC for the summer cause if not, whew that car will be unbearable. Thanks in advance...

All you need to replace with the Compressor is the accumulator and orfice tube - unless your condenser has a hole in it it doesn't need to be replaced. While you have everything apart - replace all the O-rings.

The reason why I want to replace as much as possible is because Im sure the ac hasnt worked in quite a long time, there is a line that I can see just plain ruted off, and because I figured the condenser would be nice to have a new one.

Well, it will be a breeze to pull since the radiator will be out to swap the compressor. The only parts you will be reusing will be your evaporator (the part in the dash), the hard lines, and the manifold hoses off the compressor. Just make sure you use all new O-rings, install them correctly, and properly oil the system. Then have it vacuumed and charged.

I'm not sure how it works in New York, but here in the midwest when something gets ruted off it can be real exciting. :oogle: Seriously, if a line is broken/open, there is contamination in the system and a good flushing is in order.

if you're rebuilding an 89 AC system with a 3 month old compressor, then i'm assuming it's the new comp. is R-134. The 89 is all R-12, which means you'll be replacing *everything*, hoses, oil, the works. My personal opinion is that any r-12 system is not worth fixing up; but then again i'm a pessimist.

Rusted. I meant rusted. In any case, Im not sure what the conditions of whats left or the old system is. I can visually see that one line is rusted off, there is nothing connected to the evaporator, and I know I have to replace the accumalator/dryer.
