While my recently purchased 95 with 177K was at the shop I asked the mechanic to take a look and see where the oil leak was coming from. When I picked the car up the mechanic said "Most likely rear main seal. However we don't do that because it would require pulling the motor." So now I have a car that smokes at every red light and loses about a quart of oil per every 1 1/2 hour of driving time. I guess I am wondering if there is anyone within the about a 60 mile radius of Jackson, MI that would be willing to undertake such a project and approximate cost?

rear main seal requires pulling the tranny (much easier.)

good time to check clutch and resurface flywheel.

Having someone pull the tranny should be around $500-$700. Rear main seal is around $40.

Hmmm, the oil leak is coming from the pulley side of the motor. Maybe that guy did not have any idea what he was talking about. The car is an ATX so have no use for a clutch replacement, although wishing it was an MTX.

So many possible leakers. Get that thing on jackstands and find the origin of the leak yourself. It might just be a low oil level sender seal, or an oil pan seal, or, or or....

Either way, MUCH easier to fix than a rear main :thumb:

my front main is also leaking. mine tends to drip on the cats after a hard run and it smokes inconsistently. is yours doing that or smoking out of the exhaust?

No, no smoke from the exhaust, but alot of smoke as oil must be dripping on the exhaust. Most of the smoke seems to be coming from the right side of the vehicle.

Alright, thanks for your information. I thought my mechanic was crazy when he talked about pulling the motor. Now if I could only find someone willing to do the work in the SE michigan area.
