I just got $1000 of graduation money and i am ready to mod the sho. Since i have blown out shocks in the back i am going to get all new suspension. A firm ride takes backseat to better handling. What do you guys suggest and where do you suggest buying it from? Thanks.

It all depends on what you want to do with the car. If it is JUST a daily driver or it you plan to auto-X it. Do you want to lower the car or just replace the stock worn parts? shrug

Firming up the suspension will help the handling, so if you need that anyway it's a good place to put the money.

There are a lot of maintenance things that will save you money in the long run and also help how well it runs (i.e., performance).

If your SHO is an MTX a Y-Pipe is also a good idea, especially if your catalytic converters are aging.

Are you doing the work yourself (and you have most of the tools already) or will you be paying somebody to do the work? That makes a big difference.

I say dont mod until all of your maintenance is done. A clean fresh running stock sho is very impresive.

i will be doing the work myself. I have many friends who are very car savy to help me if i need them. I say i want suspension because my shocks are blown out in the back so i may as well upgrade the whole suspension. I know i will need maitenence eventually but my car is runing pretty strong. I took it to the track today and my first time ever i ran a 15.1. I want to get suspension and tires now, then get the maitenance then power adders. I was thinking of getting eibachs and koni adjustables, any thoughts?

I would start with Eibachs, and Tokicos. Then buy all the surrounding components- strut mounting cups F+R, strut bearings, sway bar end links F+R. While your at it, might as well buy new sway bar to body bushings- urethane all the way. Another overlooked area of firming up a suspension, is sub frame bushings. They make a world of difference. Check out MIDWestSHO.com for the SFB's, the price on his aluminum bushings can't be beat.

Strut tower braes should be at the top of the list. Any additional stress put on the body will only aggravate the flex between the strut towers.

FWIW I saw the GM FSTB installed on a SLO the other day. IMHO this is quite adequate. Does anyone have a part number for this?

I have the Koni/Eibach setup on my car. I absoulely love it! However, as someone already stated, maintanence is key. I understand that the car runs strong, but if the maintanence is done, MOD away!
Koni/Eibach, with some subframe connectors and a H-Brace are an excellent start in suspension. Strut bars are next. Measure your back sway bar, and check the size. I run a 27/28 (too late for me right now), in my rear.
This is just my 0.02 worth ...

Shoinoff95's right. It all depends on what you want to do with the car. If you want to save some $ for other mods/maintainence, look at the KYB struts/moog springs. I have the KYB GR2 struts all around and like them alot. For me they are perfect, (hot-rod baby hauler) and I keep my ride at the stock height. I'm not going for balls-out performance. I want comfort for her, yet performance for me. These struts were the right blend of that, and were the right price. The leftover money can go to SFC, SFB, STBs, or whatever.

Yeah mullet your pretty close to me also, i always like meeting SHO people. I need the same thing as you because my back struts are sagging so i am going to get into the eibach and koni combo. But remember with koni's their only housings and not the whole strut so u have to take your original housing and built it with the koni inserts. Personally id go with the eibach/tokico combo or intrax/tokico if u want to lower oyur car a little more. Check midwestSHO.com for the best prices.

Sway bar to body bushings- urethane all the way.

Don't use Polyurethane. TPR is MUCH better. Josh at SHO NUT carries a full line of TPR bushings. No squeaks, don't need greasing and they wear better.

Yeah right, you saw the good part! :p I told my wife about that blue mtx you found, and she made me stop in every car lot around there to find it. Sadly, it was allready gone by the time we got there.

I was thinkin 'damn, wifey is pretty cool lookin for her own sho too!'.

To echo what everyone's been saying, perform a 60k (adjust valves, replace shims, water pump, crank and cam position sensor, plugs, wires, gaskets) before upgrading anything on the car. Assuming you've already done this, check out Midwest SHO's web page for a good price on aluminum sfb's. I also agree with crazysho and would go with the Tokico/Eibach setup, then lose that factory Y-pipe.

I'd say the aluminum subframe bushings (or any bushings) :) should be one of the first things you replace since I've had the pleasure of driving your car.

You know my feelings about the springs/struts as well. I would also suggest getting the police strut mounts to go along with the struts. If not then be very careful which strut mounts you buy as some of the aftermarket mounts have shorter studs. This I know because I got some for mine and I barely have enough room on the studs to put the nut, much less mount a STB. rant Wasn't sure if I showed you guys that or not last Sunday.

Has your dad ever done a valve lash adjustment? **scratches head..I know he's done a lot of things but for the life of me I can't remember if he's done one or not.** I think it would be a great starting place in your SHO education for you to see and participate in that being done. It looks way more scary than it really is but is a major key in the maintenance of your baby.

Congrats on your graduation! You're a super kid and it's great to see one so enthusiastic over his car. Your dad has every right to be proud. thumb

P.S. I want to be there the first time you start her up with the SS catless Y-pipe. :D :D At least have your dad there to take a pic for me. You're going to be like oh_my

I am actually not the one that graduated, that was mullet earlier in the post i was just throwing him some information on what shocks/struts to buy. I didnt know u and my dad took pics of our cars, but those are some very good pics. Much better then the ones i have. I will definitly be getting alum. SFB's and koni's and intrax. My dad and me both need to do the valve adjustment on both of our cars, but right now its hard to find time with all the hours he is working and all the hours ive been working. I just bought a powder coated intake from mike@hypercoat so when i pull the original intake off i hope to do the valve adjustment. I thank u alot and it was fun meeting u and i hope my SHO will be as good to me as i hope to be to it. :D
