Congratulations on your purchase. The V8 SHO may not be as quick as an MTX GEN I or II, but it sure makes up for it in other ways. Rigidity of the body, Ride quality, fit and finish in the interior, and most of all the V8 exhaust rumble.

My 98 has had a best of 30 MPG on hwy cruising at about 70-75 Flat road. Those calculations where based on *** miles traveled, divided by gallons used. after a full top of. On average with a light foot it gets about 19-23 in the city and 26-29 hwy.

I have 4 Autozone coils on the car at the moment, and have had good luck so far, granted its only been 5k miles since the new coils.

Most detailers throw on a good coat of wax with some glaze and it works, for a while. The scratches disappear only to come back after a few washes.
If the scratch is not too deep you could color sand and polish it out. I doubt polishing alone will get the scratch out.

Good luck with the little issues and enjoy the ride!

Woah!?
The most fuel efficient v8 SHO on the road ya got there?

I check mine about every fill up.
90% hwy. I don't baby it, but I do keep those $40 fill-ups in mind most of the time.
The BEST I've done is a shade over 22. Typically 20-21.

Yes, that does sound high, but I suppose you have to have a few high ones to average out the low ones. A very light foot indeed, I would, guess, if those numbers are right. The first number range sounds a lot more like mixed city and highway rather than pure city to me, but if you are extremely gentle and do not have much time at the stop lights on idle, I suppose it could happen in the city alone.

My best highway mileage came on a cross Canada trip in the back road Saskatchewan section where there were literally hundreds of miles of road that were dead flat, void of traffic or stops, and just about arrow straight. With the cruise control on and set at 65 mph, those netted me almost 30 mpg, IIRC. hard to get better conditions, and I suspect hard to get better fuel economy from this particular machine. They doubtless vary a bit, though.

OK well the miss has developed into more like what I would describe as a rough idle, it sputters just a little bit when it's really warmed up and comes to a stop at a light, or whatnot. See the tach flutter a bit, feel it kinda shaking the car a bit. Very annoying to say the least. Hoping it's something as simple as coils.

Could an undercharged/old battery cause these symptoms?

I am beside myself about this whole coil issue. I see them all over the internet at such varying price points, I have no idea how much is too much, how much is too little, and what would be a good price. Is it possible to get a set of 8 good quality aftermarket coils for around $200? If so, where?

There is a set of 8 brand new coils for $116.00 with free shipping on ebay right now. They have a 30 day return on them. Doesn't say what brand they are.

I also saw 1 Motorcraft coil for $179.72 . So there's the decision, do ya buy a set for cheap that may turn out to be crap, or do ya buy the more expensive ones? I think you can find Motorcraft coils cheaper than that price, I have seen them for around $125.00 a piece, still a lot of money, but you get what you pay for I guess.

Autozone has Duralast coils for $85.99.

That's what I'm talking about they are so all over the board price-wise it's impossible to tell what is what, and what I should or should not buy. I just want 8 new aftermarket coils with a decent reputation for quality, and with a decent affordable price. Right now, I'm lost.

Go to www.onlinewholesaleparts.com, Ford Ignition Coil DG 465 8pcs.
Got mine there for $115 +shipping. Cheap, but the theory is that since
these are specifically for one engine the blueprint ain't gonna change too
drastically from the Ford originals.

Rockauto.com has the ignition coils ranging from $55.79/coil-$106.99. Cheap coils will get you cheap results.

I disagree - I suspect they are all made in the same Chinese or whatever factory then resold and labeled... Given how low production numbers are on our cars and the coils are unique to this motor, I suspect there is only the original tooling in existence for making them.

Buy the cheapest ones you can find and run with it. I think I paid $50 for a pair off of EBay about 6 months ago. Ended up using both of them when the 99 ejected a plug, and trashed the coil, and another of the factory coils croaked too. But you'll have those things as you roll well past 170K.

I think that the cheaper the coils the cheaper their reliability. Rockauto has a pretty respectable price range for the 96-99 SHO coils.

Just my two cents...
