Heres whats up on my 91 SHO. It has 145K on it. The front suspension has not been touched. Except for the drivers side sway bar that snapped. The rear struts were replaced and one mounting bushing about 30K ago. I am finally getting some cash to repair my SHO. I need to replace the front struts. They are completely shot. I am replacing them with the Sachs/Boge struts for the sho. Should I replace the springs? I was told unless they snap they are not worth replacing is this true. Also, what else should be replaced relating to the front steering and suspension by 145K. I know I need the spacers cause they groan. I also get a thump noise while taking low speed left and right turns from a standstill.
Also, one time I took a right turn onto a street that did not intersect perpendicularly. It came in at an angle. As I turned onto this road it seemed on the wheel's return it got locked up for a moment and then was freed. Any ideas on the cause of that.

just for your "knowing" sake, if you onlu replaced one mounting bushing on the rear...you'll likely have to do the either a bit later. it's worth to get them both done at once to save labour

oh yeah i am kicking my self that i didnt cause the other one rattles. But I will replace the rears out in the spring i think anyway. Then I will replace both. The rattling drives me nuts. I am gonna focus on the front now.

The rattling in the rear is probably the sway bar mid section bushings. They wear out and the sway bar can move around and rattle over bumps. It's about $12 for the bushings and 20 min to replace them.

At 145K the front springs are probably getting soft so replacing them isn't a bad idea. Also replace the ball joints, tie rods and wheel bearings. They usually go out around that mileage. Inspect the CV boots for cracks and the condition of the subframe bushings.

olympic,

Thanks for the input on the rear mid-section bushings. I haven't had those replaced. The rattle/knock noise I am sure is coming from the upper strut plate/bushing. It does it on the side that i did not replace. Anyone who sits in the back says something about it. So before new people get in my car I have to tell them not to worry about noises, I already know. Unless something falls off of course. Our old 92 Taurus with 160K made the same noise before we got rid of it. I didnt replace both when i did the rear struts at 110K. But I do have a squeaky-creak noise coming from the rear when going over dips. Could that be from another type of bushing?
