I suspect I want to just replace with the stock part, but thought I'd ask first.

Also is the plastic part superior or inferior to the steel rod part?

They are strut specific. So if aren't using the gen3 struts that move the sway bar end links 90 degrees then you should use gen2 end links.

The tubular steel ones are better than the OE plastic ones, as long as they're not the thin flimsy ones. I've seen ingalls (IIRC) bend from normal DD use.

Go with Moogs, or some good quality metal rod design that's greaseable. Should last a long time (as long as you grease it once in awhile). And yes, Gen 2 links with Gen 2 struts.
