After putting on 2 new drive belts today, I started the car up and went to back it out. At both ends of the steering wheel movement I would get a loud squeel. :squint: I intentionally left the belts a little loose, in order not to put undo stress on any of the pulleys. I do have the correct amout of ps fluid. Is the squeel b/c of the loose belt?, it isn't overly loose. What is the correct play in the belt? And between which pulleys should the play be checked?

Tighten the belt so that on the longest length of the belt between pullies there is about 1/2" of deflection. A loose belt is most likely your problem. Also never hold the wheel at full lock as it strains the pump. The extra couple of inches of turning radius really doesn't make it worth it.
