Puff of blue smoke out the intake. Bad thing?

In anticipation of receiving my parts, I decided to go out and inspect a couple of things that were wrong with the car (squeaking brakes, no interior light, remove outer airbox, etc). Well, I get through all of those and I remove the intake hose, and MAF. I put a towel over the TB to keep any debris from flying into the intake. I went into the car, and turn the key in the ON position so I can turn the wheel, and left it in the ON position (did not start the car).

About 10 mins later, I heard a sound (as if the intake was trying to suck in air) followed by a puff of BLUE smoke. Very worried at this point, I took the key out, buttoned everything back up and started it. It started right up (with a waterpump chirp). I let it idle for 7-8 mins then it started to stumble, and idle low. . . . . .

At one point it almost cut off, then the RPM went up as if someone hit the gas pedal, went down to normal idle, and cut off. The same sound that occured while it was shutting off, was the same sound I heard when the puff of blue smoke came out the throttle body.

Should I be worried? I figure it cut off due to the bad CPS, and i'm only about 2 - 3 days away from receiving my 60K parts. What could the possible cause of this problem be? Thanks for any/all suggestions!

*EDIT* - running out to run the codes now!

Ok I pulled the codes, here's what I got. . . .

KOEO
113
157
172
211
219
542

KOER
172
136
411
129

113, and 157 can be disregarded as I forgot to plug back in the MAF and IAT after buttoning everything up :bonk:.

172 would explain the CE light's I was getting while bringing the car home. They're on their way, so it'll be replaced.

211 and 219 I have no clue what would cause. DIS? Coilpack? CPS(being replaced)?

Not sure on 542 either, as I heard the fuel pump prime. Actually, I do recall hearing it prime over and over again as I was running the KOER.

Also I'm not sure if I got all the codes from KOER because the car shut off. Oh and these are for a 95 MTX. Thanks!

Check to make sure that your SPOUT plugs are inserted completely and not broken (Code 219). They could be related to your failing CKP sensor, however.

Also, if a SHO ever stalls out while running, for whatever reason, a code 542 is set.

As for the blue smoke, I'd tend to believe that it was your IAB valve.

And check your PM's, my phone just took a shit today, too. :mad:

DTC 211 is a PIP fault code, in most cases that means either a bad CPS or a bad DIS module. The 219 is a loss of SPOUT signal which is probably being caused by the same thing that is causing the 211 DTC.

As for the puff of blue smoke out the TB with the engine not running, that's a weird one. My guess is that maybe an intake valve somewhere opened up which allowed some left over exhaust gas to exit out the intake side. Just a guess though.

PIP = Profile Ignition Pickup related to CPS meaning CMP (Camshaft Position Sensor)

Try not to use CPS to explain a sensor, it leads to too much confusion.
Use the new acronyms.
CKP = Crank sensor
CMP = Cam sensor

The PIP signal is generated by the crankshaft position sensor (CKP). ;)

Also, "CPS" is the old SAE acronym for the crankshaft position sensor (now CKP).
