Powersteering question

Hello everyone This is my first post most of my questions have been answered from others its nice to know i am part of a community that loves the SHO as I do. I just brought back a 92 MTX from the dead with bad DIS Rod bearings and wires and of coarse oil in the wells....I fixed all of that however I have a 521 code which is power steering pressure switch circuit fault. It does leak power steering fluid I just havent been able to track it down to many other things needed attention first it seems to be leaking on the exhaust on the passanger side hoping its not the pump but something tells me it is.

The pressure switch is located on the rack right near where the steering column enters the rack. Look for the sensor, make sure its plugged in and trace the wires back to the main harness.

From what I've seen, this code comes up when the wire to the sensor is cut/burned/pinched. The fluid would have to be pretty low for the pressure to not get high enough to trigger the switch.

If it is a low fluid issue you'll really need to track down the leak. It could very well be the pump, but make sure the rubber P/S lines aren't too close to the exhaust.

X2 likely wiring or bad pressure switch; unlikely the leak is related to the code. The dripping on the exhaust could be a leak in the pressure line at the pump fitting, or the pump itself. I wrote up how to remove the pump without going insane some time ago; search should locate the post. But make sure it's PS fluid that is leaking and not motor oil from a leaking rear cam seal or rear valve cover - both common problems. FWIW, my pump developed a leak and had to be replaced.

Im sure its power steering fluid thats leaking. However new problem came up while driving home... she overheated on me and I replaced the thermastat and o ring along with a coolant flush, also there is a knock that came and went that matched rmp's and it was hard to start and low oil pressure light was flickin...

Keep driving it and you'll have easy access to the rack when you're swapping engines.


You said you did rod bearings...hopefully you did everything right. Sounds like you have an issue with them again.

Have no plans on driving it till problem solved had to get it towed home didn't want to risk a motor though whlie looking under neath I found the plug to the rack unplugged. Strange.
