Was driving to work yesterday AM and got this message, power steering then went out. fortunately I was only a few miles from work and was able to steer it into the parking lot.

I parked, shut it down and restarted the engine. Power steering was back as if nothing happened but the Advanced traction control light was now on.

I called the dealer and was going to take it in later. He said I might have to leave it there for a few days since I don't have an appt. Well around 1pm I leave to go to the dealer and everything is normal, as if it never happened. Power steering was ok, the TC light was still on but immediately went out as soon as I started driving.

I called the dealer and asked him if I should still bring it in now that everything was back to normal. I didn't want to leave my car there for a couplke days if nothing is wrong. He said it wasn't necessary and most likely a fluke. He said to check the tire air pressure as this can sometimes be the cause. I said WTF? He said the electronic steering, brakes and tire pressure are all interrelated.

Great, thanks. I'll keep an eye on it. Care is still under 3 year warranty, hopefully that would be covered.

Well Friday on the way home from work the steering failed again.

Took it in and dealer said it is covered under warranty. He has to order parts. He said it was the power steering "gear."

Isn't this the same problem Explorer's and Focus were having?
