I have been trying to fix this power steering leak for a couple days now. I thought it was the hose from the reservoir to the cooler but after taking it off I could find no leak in the hose. After I put it back on I was advised it was probably the hose from the pump to the lines. I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right hose though. It is like only 2-3 feet long and connects to 2 metal connector things. I can't get the damn thing off. Is this part suppose to come off? The car doesn't seem to leak any fluid at all if it is just sitting and running but when I take it for a drive around the block it comes back smoking really bad and leaking all under the car which is why I think it could be this section. Any advice would be appreciated.

Kent, welcome to the SHO Fourm. The most likely power steering fluid leak source is the pressure hose from the pump to the steering rack. The nuts on the rack end are 18mm and very awkward to access. The connection at the pump is even tougher to get to. You can get Power Craft 71829 pressure hose from AutoZone for about $27. Replacing it is a bit more effortful. I just went throgh this in June of 2002.

You may want to use the search feature available at the top right of the Forum pages to search in the "SHO Maintenance & Troubleshooting - Suspension, Brake Systems, & Body" section as well as this section for other posts regarding the power steering pressure hose, rack and leaks. There is a great deal of experience and knowledge on the SHO available through this Forum. Again, welcome.
