I think my high pressure line is leaking and causing all the smoke from burning off the converter.
Is this line removable from the top or the bottom?
How hard of a job is it to do? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that link. I saw that today while searching through the site for answers to my questions.
I bought the replacement line from O'reily's for a swap out so would I still be able to get to the bottom portion of the line to replace it from the top of the motor?
And another question, is there anything else in that area that could be possibly leaking onto the converter?

You need to drop the rear of the subframe and possibly remove the swaybar to get to the line at the rack from underneath. If you take off the surge tank you can sorta get to it from up top.

The front main seal or timing cover could be leaking as well.

I removed the line after taking the entire intake off, but I can't get the line to thread into the rack now. 2 days I've been at this. Any tips on getting it in?

Paul, what do you mean there are two designs? I put everything back together and fired her up and the leak is much worse. I thought maybe it was the fitting on the rack, but it's not coming from there that I can see. So, it could not have been the high pressure hose as previously suspected. After 5 minutes the reservoir is empty from full.
Any ideas? Where is the return line located?

I think the +'98s had both the ends of the high pressure line different than the earlier models.

You cannot tell where the leak is?

I'm gonna put it back up on jack stands in the morning and see if I can tell where it is coming from. The way it's dripping now it should be easier to tell. I hope it's not the rack.
The subframe can be lowered by just removing the rear two bolts? This may offer me a better view to see what's going on.

It's leaking from the rack right up above where two lines are when looking up from under the car. It seems as if it's weeping out of a bolt.
What is the part number for the correct rack assembly for the SHO?

I'm not sure about the rack differences if there are any. I have just heard that the hoses are different. The bolt you speak of may be a banjo bolt where the actuator valve is attached.

if you are in doubt as the any parts differences I would suggest contacting Torrie at www.fastpartsnetwork.com and specifically ask for the part number and if there are any changes through the years.

It seems my mechanical skills aren't what I thought...
Took it to a shop and it was the line into the rack that was leaking. $65 and it's fixed.
Thanks for the help guys
