Power steering fluid?

I was told by a mechanic that it was OK to use ATF in the power steering. Is this true? If so, what type would be acceptable for use...Type F, Dex III, etc?

I run just regular ATF mercon/Dexron 3...........

I choose to flush with cheap Walmart Dexron ATF, then fill with Valvoline Synpower PS fluid. But I think you will be fine with any quality name brand Dex/Merc 3 ATF like Todd says.

I use Valvoline MaxLife in both the power steering and the tranny.

AMSOil ATF. Took a little bit over a quart, dry, if I remember correctly in my 90.

I use Mobil 1 ATF. Works like a champ, and it cleans the system out too!
