Ever since I have gotten my 95 atx the o/d button hasn't worked and I have checked under the center console for loose connections and wires but found nothing wrong. It's not a big dilemma, but I would like for everything to work on the car. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have two ATX and neither on has working o/d from the button, I've been waiting for someone on the forum to share where to track down the problem, I'll be watching..My understanding is that it is in overdrive mode by default, So..we can't turn it off the way things stand.

Does the overdrive (4 gear) not actually work, or are you saying the light on the dash does not work?

So, you can't lockout overdrive is what your saying? That's is usually a wiring issue. Or, have you tried to click the OD off button and actually see if the car does go into 4th gear? It might just be the light out on the dash.

Yes, so I just need to dig deeper and find the wiring problem somewhere (since I already looked under the console I will just have to take apart the shifter itself). and hopefully I can find the problem there.

the switch on the shifter is just a momentary contact (toggle off/ toggle on) and terry is right that the car always starts up with the overdrive gear allowed (you have to toggle it off). so, when you have the console apart, pop open the connector on that wire, and (with the key on) jumper it to ground and see if the o/d off light illuminates. most likely it will, and that tells you that the wire is broken inside the shifter (which is the most common failure) if it doesn't then you need to chase that wire back to wherever the problem exists.
