Castrol GTX 10w30, recommended by a good percentage of the forum, you can do a search and you should be able to produce the pictures of the inside with Castrol oil vs. others like quaker and penzoil. Sythetic is a big NO NO, so don't even think about that unless you want to spin the bearings. Sdpatt uses this oil and his engine is still clean and running strong after what? 260k+ miles. Also, use a good filter, I'd recommend mobil 1 or k&n, that is also a big factor. Hope that cleared some thing up for you.

another question, there is a hole for a switch in the dash, its not the fog lights or the defroster...its lower on the dash, theres just a hole there looks like something was there from the factory. what was it? i was thinking power antenna. and where should i be able to find a sunroof motor cover, it goes between the visors? the little plastic mounting peices are all snapped off.

Yup thats the antenna button. You can get both the items your look for, from a parting out SHO. Look at the classifieds at shoclub.com, or maybe someone is parting one out here in the SHO Parts for sale section. Thats your best bet for cheepest and esiest way.

Jake,

Welcome to the Forum. That earlier post was implying that Castrol GTX was the oil I used, not the synthetics. The owners manual recommends 5W-30 for temperatures below 100F degrees and 10W-30 for temperatures above 0F degrees. For your NY location, the 5W-30 will probably be a better choice during the winter months, and 10W-30 once you thaw out in the Spring.

Here are some links to discussions and pictures of the oil choices. You can find more by using the "search" feature at the top of the Forum pages.

1. What's the problem with Pennzoil?
2. What kind of oil is most reccomended?
3. Best Oil to use in SHO

I almost hate to ask, but what brand of plugs and wires did you install? The only plugs made specifically for the SHO are the Motorcraft AGSP32PP. The Motorcraft WR-4033 wires designated for the 3.0L SHO, will fit both the 3.0L and 3.2L SHO engines. What engine/transaxle does your car have?

I got the motor craft platinum plugs and the delco wires, they were 44 instead of the 130 for the motorcraft ones and are actually a bit bigger, thus making it harder to install them. I have a 91+ 3.0 5spd and the right motorcraft oil filter. I am looking for a CAI and a mass air flow sensor. I will try and get a picture of the car up some time tonite.

Good luck with those Delco wires. The Motorcraft WR-4033 wires for $84 from FordPartsNetwork.com also fit the 3.2L engine.

Yes, there is a difference between the wires. Did the boots seal tightly around the hole at the valve cover surface? That is very important to keep the moisture and grit out of the plug wells which can destroy the cylinder liners when you pull the plugs. This junk and any oil should always be cleaned from the plug wells before replacing the plugs. The wires will be proven only if they can cover the miles without allowing a misfire. Time will tell.

The wires fit like a glove, there is an awsome seal around and its actually kind of hard to get them off. As i was driving today, they worked as they should have but as you said it is a test of time.

Well here's my SHO oil experience... :)
When I bought my car w/ 130k on it, the previous owners were using Penzoil (sp) :( And it appeared to be burning/leaking about a quart every 500 miles. Ouch.

So I changed the oil to Mobil 1 synthetic. I had great results with this oil in my Avenger. After about 2500 miles of Mobil 1 it was burning at an average rate of around 750 miles a quart.

After much reading on the forum, I have switched to Castrol GTX 10w-30. My 143k mile SHO now burns oil at a average rate of 1000 miles per quart. Much better than when I bought it! Oil pressuer also seems to be up.

Another note..Instead of using the FL-400S filter (my fiancees damn ****** used the same one), perhaps try using the FL-1A or equivalant. Fits the SHO great and holds a bit more oil & contaminents.
