a couple weeks ago i was driving my 91 and it just died on the side of the road.so i called my best friend AAA and got it towed to a mechanic who's never worked on a sho and started pulling out the plug wires and they were covered with oil. so he cleaned the chamber and put in 3 fake wires and the car ran on 3 cylinders he shut the car off and told me i need valve cover gaskets new o rings and new pluggs and wires. he said it was gonna cost me 900$ to fix and i told him to F@@k off and i towed it back to my garage thanks to my friends again. and now it sits and sits. some one please help me with this. i was also told i could've blew a piston ring. all the help the ford dealer down here gave me over the phone.also i asked how much the 60k valve tuning adjustment and he told me he has never heard of that before i asked them the problem and he said there is no one in the service department that knows how to work on sho's. and i said y'all are a ford dealer and you don't know how to fix a D@$m ford.so i hung up. yeah some help ford really is. so anyone out help me diagnose my problem?

If you have oil in the pull wells then it's most likely due to plug well seals. They sit on the under side of the valve covers and effective keep oil out of the wells. Over time they tend to go through many heating and cooling cylces, making them shrink and less effective at keeping oil out of the plug wells. You can order a complete seal kit from Autozone which includes 2 valve cover seals and 6 spark well seals. And that should run you about $80. I don't know how mechanically apt you are but you can find out how to change them and get more info on these, by doing a search for valve cover gasket / spark plug seals. Also if you are changing these I'd also suggest chaging the spark plugs and wires.

Yeah, the gaskets are $72 at autozone. The Motorcraft wires are $99 at fordpartsnetwork.com, and the motorcraft plugs are $4 a pop at FPN also. You can use aftermarket wires to save a few bucks, like the AC Delco's or Taylors, but use the motorcraft plugs. Make sure you clean out the plug wells before taking the plugs out. YOu don't want that sludge draining into your cylinders.

It's not that bad a job. Taking the intake off looks intimidating, but once you get into it, it's not as bad as it looks.

Welcome to the forum. If you have any mechanical inclination whatsoever, head on over to www.shonutperformance.com and order Mark N's 60k video. You will see how easy it is to perform this 60k service yourself. Sheesh, for $900 you could perform a FULL 60k and have room for a mod or two

You could also try the guide one my site, there is also a parts list there for what you should change.

It's not bad of a job, especially if you can take your time and enjoy it. thumb

Welcome to the Forum. the mechanic was right about what needed replacing. the rubber boots dont have to be removed for intake removal. if you fear youd broken a ring, do a compression test and find out for yourself. there is a lot of good information on this site, especially if you Search for it.

a polite request, please use some proper punctuation. some of us dont like run-on sentences, and will automatically overlook such a post. Thanks, and no offense intended.

Instructions are on my site in the upper 60K section. Ditto on the punctuation. thumb

Not that I'm doubting the diagnosis, but when I first read this post, I was skeptical about the likelihood that oil in the plug wells would cause the engine to just "die". Typically, oil in the plug wells will cause a secondary ignition failure in the form of a stumble/miss at idle or acceleration. This is also usually something that develops over time, and doesn't just suddenly strike and shutdown the engine. If there is oil in your plug wells, there's no doubt that your engine would benefit from new plug well seals, wires and plugs, but I'm not sure I'm convinced that this is at the root of your problem. A sudden shutdown of the engine, which is then successfully started sometime later sounds more like a failed waterpump leaking on the CPS. Did you check your codes by chance?

I could be way out in left field here, but it's just a thought. Hope you get it all figured out!
