Hey everyone,

It's a little long, get ready.....
I had made a pair of posts shown HERE and ALSO HERE about my problem. I just bought a new TPS from Josh @ Shonut and installed it today on my lunch hour.

First, the plastic connecter was so brittle that it broke trying to get the old TPS disconnected. Then I turned the throttle linkage a scutch just to get it to line up, and when I started the car, the rpms would lope, and then shot to the rev limiter instantly. I shut her down and saw the needle was pinned, even after it shut off.

I disconected the TPS and reconnected it, making sure to not F with the linkage this time. Got it, start her up, and the CE light is now on constantly. I drive her back to work and throttle responce still sucks and she still bucks and is unresponsive.

Here's where it gets weird....I pulled codes again & got 63 as a hard and stored code in KOEO, plus I got another 63 and then a 98 in KOER. [Did not pass KOEO yet (Get 11 in KOEO first) Transmission EPC circuit/solenoid failure] The weird thing is that it didn't signal me to brake, turn the wheel and goose test it. It just spat out the codes. Then the engine would almost goose itself and the CE light would stop blinking and just stay on, not finishing the test.

WTF????

I need this car to get around in for my job. HELP!!!

The saga continues

This morning I couldnt find my keys, so I went to look in the car. I went to enter my code on the keypad and on the first button press the alarm went off.

That was cute at 6 am when I couldn't find the key fob to disarm it. We're new in the neighborhood and I'm sure the neighbors really love me now. :squint:

I don't know what to do next. The new TPS didn't solve my problem entirely, although it's about 75% better than what it was. Any Ideas?

now im assuming that the car didnt do this with the old TPS correct? If not then obviously that is tied in.Which brings me to my next question did you disconnect you battery when you changed the sensor?(not insulting your intelligence just got to ask this)If not disconnect your battery for abour 5 to 10 minutes just enough to clear out the ecm.Youd be surprised at how much this may help. Now you also said something about the connector it self.If there is any question or if the connector is broken do yourself a favor and replace it.That pigtail should still be available for relatively short money as i think its just a regular Ford TPS plug.Try those things and let us know what happens....Good Luck!!!

No Offence taken, Ace. I'm glad for the help. :thumb:

Yes, I disco'ed the battery for about 5-10 minutes before installing the TPS. I even turned on the lights, and stepped on the brakes to drain it all the way.

One of the clips on the side of the connecter that the TPS plugs into broke. It still seated nice and tight, so I figured it was OK.

Any ideas about the code 98 though?

i honestly think you may have a bad TPS or connector...switch it out with the old one and see what happens...if you dont get it then theres your problem...or even before that take off the new one and reinstall it without messing with the lever and see what happens first if that doesnt do it switch it with the old one like i said earlier and see whats up...plus if possible change that pigtail...cheap insurance..

Kev, I hate to say it but you lost me in the above.

KOEO code 63 - TP circuit below minimum voltage. - Suspect open TP sensor, harness. (so check the harness to make sure there are no breaks and that it is connecting tightly. A broken tab shouldn't make a huge difference, I had a broken tab also and had no problems, but every car is different.)

KOER code 98 - Hard fault present. The PCM is running in FMEM (Failure Effects Management Mode), so something is royally screwed up that the KOEO test should have told you about. Rerun KOEO and fix whatever you find there.

If you got an 11 in the KOEO test, that's an all clear. Perhaps what you need to do is clear all the codes by pulling the clip out of the test connector as the codes are downloading, then disconnect the battery and let all the power drain from it just to be on the safe side. Then reconnect, run the car for a bit and then go recheck everything.

Just for the record, I swapped out my TPS without disconnecting the battery. I honestly think that people are way to paranoid about that stuff.

Solved... I think.

OK, I forgot to mention before that my idle was really high at about 2k, so I did as Ace had suggested and I changed my new TPS back to the old one.

Darn thing runs like a champ and no CE light! My new sensor was DOA. Damn Ford quality. I gotta email Josh about returning it.

It all makes sense now. When I changed my old TPS, the 2 screws that held it one were quite rusty. It probably didn't ground right because of it. I mounted the old TPS with the new screws and she's good to go.

i reran the KOEO and got 11's and the KOER I got a 25 and a 73. No knock sensor tested, and no goose detected. I probably timed the goose wrong, but she's responding to my right foot again, and isn't that all that matters anyway? :burn_out:

Thanks to all!
