Hi. Just joined with my (wife's) 2010 SHO. It's getting up there in age and miles (115K) and looking for insight to keep it going.

The photo is of the car (and wife) when the car was brand-spankin' new. The 2010 is special in that very little is common with 2011-on. I recently replaced the electric cooling fan assembly after searching on & off for 2 years. This part is different from later years, and I fear other parts will be just as tough to come by, unless... y'all have the scoop on where to find the stuff.

I've done the vast majority of the expected maintenance on it over the past 6 year. In Arizona, the heat kills EVERYTHING! Plastic parts on the cars are first to go. I've replaced the a/c door twice, the wiper fluid tank, shock/struts/bushings and the PTU flushed, plugs and coils, also. The rear sunshade is stuck in the up position because the stops on the plastic electric motor broke off. Also from the intense AZ heat, the wiring potting compound for 3rd eye brake light has disintegrated off the glass, leaving the 3rd brake light inop. The wife reports that the wipers do not work in intermittent mode and the mirrors do not swing down when shifting into reverse. Ive replaced the headlights and added LED bulbs to the weak rear taillights and had the hood repainted because of rock chips. Geez...what more?

The shade is the 1st thing to usually give up. It looks like you are on the right track as far as maintenance. How do the valves look? Direct injection can get tons of buildup on the valves.

Here and the facebook group are a good place to start to look for hard to locate parts.

Also, as someone who has owned many much older versions of this car, some of the salvage yard search engine sites can be really helpful when options are slim to none.

Ford only timing components with water pump would be on my list of stuff to do soonish...and budget for whenever a turbo reaches the end of its mechanical life.

Thanks for the advice. I had the fuel system and injectors cleaned out last year. Not sure what the valves look like. Hopefully the cleanout took care of any build up. One thing we're noticing that during start up is a bunch of lifters' banging (I think). It quiets down once the engine catches. Our plan is to keep the car in as good a condition as we can for another 2-1/2 - 3 years when I retire and get a vehicle I can take into the hills. So, it will be for sale then.

Classic phaser start up rattle. They rattle until the oil pressure builds up.

Try this. Hold the gas to the floor, do not press the brake pedal. Press start and let the engine turn over for 10-15 seconds. Then start the car normally. See if the rattle is gone.

What kind of cleaning was this? You need something to get at the back of the valves to clean them. Port injection used to spray on these on the way into the cylinder and keep them clean. No fuel and detergents reach this area anymore unless you make a concerted effort to hit that area. Should be some pics of buildup floating around with a search here or even just a general google search. Good luck with the vehicle it is reaching a heavier maintenance required mileage now.
