Hello everyone. Just had a few quick questions that I hope ya can help me on. I just bought a 1991 SHO plus 5 speed. Has 59k on it and is in great shape no rust etc. Well i was wondering how reliable are these cars i use to own a 94 Talon TSi AWD, can you say nightmare? also for some reason when i try to put the car in reverse it grinds dunno why and only does it sometimes.
Also do these cars run really cool? Because my temp gauge stays pretty low but i remember my 89 was the same so i assume thats normal. 60k main't anything else i should do while i got it apart? THanks for your help.

how they run all depends on how well they were taken care of, a 91 with 59k and no rust in supposed "great shape" sounds like it was taken well care of so as long as you continue taking good care of her she'll treat you well in return

as for the reverse grinding its because there are no syncros on reverse, so before you put in it reverse put it in any foward gear, i throw it in 5th first because its right there and vola, no grinding

Just like Steve said, put it in a forward gear to stop the input shaft from spinning.

As far as running cool... Do you mean in the "blue"? Near the "L"? At that milage, it is do for a 60k maintenance. I would suggest replacing the thermostat, as well as plugs, wires, crank position sensor, water pump, valve cover seals, O2 sensors, timing belt, and a front main seal. Most of these will be preventative maintenance, but you may find that some thing will need replacing. Also, the valve adjustment is something to look at. Some will say it is not necessary, but I found on my car, at 58.9k miles, that I had both exhaust valves on the #5 cylinder out of spec.
