I have narrowed the field down to two different tires. The Falken Ziex 512 and the BFGoodrich Traction T/A.

The high points for the Falken are:
--lowest price
--60,000 treadwear warranty
The lows:
--some people have had poor performance with them
--I am uncertain as to their winter/snow ability
--I've never owned a set of Falkens

The highs for the BFG:
--60,000 treadwear warranty
--winter performance is known to be good
--I've owned BFGs before and had good performance
The lows:
--$90 more than Falkens
--last set of BGFs only lasted 35K miles

I can't decide between these two. Please post your opinions and let me know. Thanks.

Kevin

P.S. I looked at Dunlop and Continental but they are too expensive for what I will pay.

If they're (only) $90 a SET more, i'd do the BFG'S personally. I have generally had NO problem with BFG's, either on trucks or cars. I always look for the best deal too, believe me, but sometimes the $$$ saved doesn't outweigh the performance advantage.

Most people don't understand how mileage warranties work. Save your invoices showing mileage, rotations, etc. If you show that you took diligent care of them (no excessive abuse or alignment wear), your tire dealer should be able to issue credit towards the replacements per the % used/warranty miles.

Tires are the CHEAPEST performance item on a car. Can make a sucky car good or a good car sucky...

I disliked the BFG VR4s due to their poor construction (out of round on 3 of 4), low traction and much lower than advertised treadwear (bald at 25,000). I also tried a set of Falken Ziex and returned them for their poor transient response and lateral grip. You didn't say what the bottom line was, but for the money, you can get much better tires.

Check out TierRack.com's Search by Size and see what you can get within your budget for the 225/55-16 size. See the survey results to see how the options placed against each other.

On the low cost end, I recommend the Yokohama ES100 for $68. In the mid range I recommend the Bridgestone Potenza RE750 for $122. On the high price end I would go for the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 for $141 or the Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position for $150.
